Exclamation Test drive-06 Eclipse GS & GT

Well I had to take my GF's 03 eclipse to the dealer today b/c the cat was all stuffed up. So while I was waiting I decided to look at the new eclipse with it street appearance package. Of corse a salesmen came out and started asking what I was interested in (not hassling me like most). I told him I would like to drive the new eclipse he said pick one, so I point out a titanium pearl GS auto with the Sportstronic tranny.

At start up there is a nice tone on the stock exhaust and its a VERY comfortable interior. The blue accents all around including the guages were nice to see (rather than the standard green and red). The turning radius was HORRIBLE, I had to go from D to R a few just to get out of the tightly parked cars.

As we headed out I gave it min. before I pushed it. The handeling was a SWEET suprise, the suspension was tight and responsive but the 4cyl was lacking power for that heavy of a car even with its sportstronic tranny.

So we came back and I was itching to try the V6, I hopped in a frost white GT V6 6spd with the sound & sun package. It had a sunroof (not a convertable fan) and the full 8 speaker rockford fosgate system. I had the same problem with the turning but I expected it this time and made it out in one shot. The exhaust note on the V6 was enough to make me want to buy it then and there, it was perfect not loud but a mean deep roar. I pull out and give this a min also, after that I had the pedal to the floor and was running through the gears like a madman. I was extremly suprised with the car, it pulled 1st 2nd hard as hell 3rd was not bad but it picked back up in 4th. I had no real time to try 5th and 6th b/c I was on a service road, I dont expect much from those gears but this car has suprised me already I am not gonna dout it now.

Anyway, The styling of the car has a tremendous amount of detail but its just not my kinda style. The power was amasing in the V6 but the 4cyl was lacking. The handeling was a nice suprise aswell but the steering could use a touch up.

All in all I say its a 7.5.

If I liked the style I would have drove it home.

I really dig the new eclipes gt but for the same price i can get the mustang. RWD, more power, and better stying (personal opinion) always win when cost is no issue.

I agree its a shame the V6 eclipse is right near the price range of the Ford Mustang GT.

At least they are getting back on track with the looks of the car. I hated the 3rd gen. Now all they need to go is get back to the AWD and Turbo trims and some good stuff could happen.

Yea I forgot to mention that price is WAY to high, but actually getting in one you can see all the detail that ford would have never dreamed of puting in a car.

I drove one also and have to say that the GT really runs good. I didnt expect it to run as it did. But what turned me off was the body roll and loose feel that it had. Guess the svt has spoiled me. lol

I can relate to that man! I drove my SPI Escort wagon for 1 1/2 years and when I first drove my SVTF, I was ginning from ear to ear and litterally laughing out loud I had so much fun driving it!! I still have fun driving it and I LOVE my SVTF!! ... sorry, didn't mean to jack your thread :-)

LOL

Its cool, I enjoy my 06 focus alot too. It was just a strange feeling driving a car that actually comes fast and does not sway back and forth in turns b/c it sits as high as a minivan.

It was nice.
