Shark Fin Antenna

Has anyone tried one of those shark fin antenna for the Focus?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EURO-...48360347QQrdZ1

This one is attached with only double sided tape, so I'm not sure how well it stays on. Seems like it would look pretty cool, but I don't know what reception would be like with one of these.

You could maybe order one from a BMW dealer or another company whose cars come with it? But I don't know if it can fit into other makes/models, or how it's set up... also it would probably be pretty expensive to get it through those channels.

As for the the "dummy fin" on eBay, what a ridiculous item. Also if you ever want to share something else, leave the Item # and people can search for it. eBay links don't work on the site.

I've heard before that the shark's fin was a satellite antenna for NAV systems, or that it's a cellular antenna for your phone. Is there a difference between those and FM antennas?

Most of what you find out there are faux antennas that don't actually do anything - they just pretend to be something they aren't.

I cant see how one from a BMW or any other yuppie ride wouldnt work for the focus....arent all antennae inputs the same interface?

I think that if you could make it work, it would look aight as a replacement to the stocker, but not as an addition.

Here is a link to a company that makes one that fits right over your existing antenna base. You dont have to shave it to install...it fits right over top using a 3M adhesive and is car wash safe. They claim better reception, although it is fidy-some-odd bucks.

Also, they do group buys...so perhaps you could find a handfull of peeps to jump in on it with you. I may be down with this idea.

I'd be interested as well if this was a replacement for the stock long antenna, and it wasn't too hard to install.

you could just use a long length of wire attached to the antenna wire connector and hide it around the perimeter of your roof/headliner on the inside of the car
and seal the holes in the roof and have better looks and reception and gas millage due to no antenna breaking the air flow
