Anyone tried remote start?

I'm thinking about taking advantage of my stupid auto tranny by getting a remote start system. Does anyone have this or have tried it? It tried it with my old Geo but it didnt work because it was a manual.

do you have a lot of cold weather where you are, if it get cold enough they are very worth while.

I have a Compustar alarm/starter on my car, and have had no problems with it at all.

Yeah...we have fridged winters here...I think this year it almost got down to like 33 F. I just want one for a cool factor. So did you install yours or did you get someone to do it. I was looking for wires and think I might have a problem...I'm not sure where they go through the firewall either. And yes I do know that I will get to get a bypass for the key thingy.

With a name like SUMMERville, it can't get that cold. I got one on my car, a friend installed it for me. We just bipassed the clutch. I always park in neutral, so its no big deal. Unless you're really good with wiring things, I wouldn't recommend trying it on your own. It takes A LOT of wire splicing. But if you do, good luck.

With my old manual I never needed to push in the clutch cause I switched the wires and the switch always thought the clutch was down...that didnt work for the remote start though.

I have had a alarm/starter for 2 years on my 03. Never had any problems. Mine is an auto also. I did the install myself in about 3 hours, but then I have been installing for about 10 years. I would not try it yourself if you have never done one. It is much better to have the pros do it. You get a lifetime warranty on it if done at the right place. Oh yeah on the autos there is the clutch plate on the drivers side firewall. On mine it is plastic and all I had to do was drill a hole, put in a grommet and run my wires. I have three holes in it now 1 for alarm wires, 1 for amp power wire and the other for headlight wires(angel eyes). If you do the holes yourself for anything make sure you use a grommet and seal it with some type of silicone sealant. Wow I can go on and on... Sorry

I bought one and the instalation was not much more but I was suprised by bhow much I use it. I did it on my taurus because it had power locks but no remote unlock and had to walk to the drivers side to oper the passenger side. But I love mine

When you get a chance, come to Chicago in Dec. or Jan. This past winter I got up for work one day and it was -5F, without the wind chill. Anyway, I put a remote starter in my F-150. It was a royal pain in the ass, but I eventually got all the bugs out. It takes a lot of time and patience.

i've got one on my car. i did it myself, but this is also what i do for a living. if i were you i'd take it to someone and have it done. and it must be nice to only get down to 33. right now it's only 31 here, and it's noon.
