no we sprayed it with high build primer, sanded it smooth and then painted it black as shown above

I think It looks great...
An Idea to Match the glossy black theme you got going....

get the headliner glossy black, with a nice finish...
This can be done with epoxy resin, sander, high build primer, and the same paint you been using...

just an idea...
