I miss my Turbo SVTF
|
New Clutch Installed
Well, as some know, my Clutch Masters Stg. 3 died on me. Probably compounded by a dead throw-out bearing, and bad clutch master cylinder. At any rate, I got the CM Stg. 4 and I LOVE it!! The pedal effort is better than stock. Clutch engages as soon as the pedal lifts. The only downside of that is you have to be ready or you'll stall or get whip lash. Its weird just cruising...when doing a smooth low rpm 1-2 shift, it just engages with a fury right away. I havent gone nuts yet as I have ~150 miles on the clutch.
On a side note, my old stg 3 when dead - I would run my car for an hour or so before driving and the clutch would grab. Not hard and it'd slip under 50%+ throttle. If I didnt warm it up, it'd barely move. Anyhoo, when I dropped my car off the next day my buddy pulled it in, put it on the lift, and did my clutch in about 3 hours. When I arrived I asked how bad the old clutch was; he said "Yeah, about that...how the hell did you get here!?" I said Id warm it up, etc. He showed me the clutch and it was BARE METAL....almost. There was about 1/4 ring that was 100% unworn. Very weird. Like it over hung the surface area of the pressure plate. I dont know how to explain it other than that. Regardless, my clutch is in and I highly reccomend it. Next step....BOOST!

Not many....I had it done March of 2005. At most, 10-12,000. I think the clutch master and/or TOB/Slave or installation error may have killed it. I always had trouble with the 1-2 shift and if I revved high, the clutch would grab even with the pedal in while in gear. There was something very wrong with my car. Seems cured now.

Don't let it make you nervous...it was something else that caused the problem, not the clutch itself (like he said, bad master or slave cylinder or throwout bearing).
Glad you got it back in good working order Russ :)

^ well my clutch master cylinder was bad it got fixed im not too sure about my throwout bearing i do have the occasional squeak under 2k rpms sometimes

SVT4life...when you got your master cylinder replaced (under the dash, top of the clutch pedal) did your pedal effort get really easier? Mine takes no effort. Feels nice though.

it got easier but the clutch releases fairly high

My Stg4 releases IMMEDIATELY. Thats the nature of the clutch though.
