Power Steering Pump-Is it hard?

I want to attempt to do the power steering pump in my car, myself. I really don't feel like paying the shop $150 for the job and another $150 for the part. It does not seem like TOO hard a job according to the haynes manual and it isn't located in a spot thats HARD to get to.

Only questions is...has anyone done it themselves? If so got any tips? Any tipe on draining the P/S fluid? Because I think i have air in the system, the steering makes noises when the fluid is low and i turn the wheel.

Changing out the pump isn't hard. When your done, you will need to purge the air from the system. Get both front wheels off the ground, and with fluid in and engine running, keep turning the steering wheel slowly lock to lock, back and forth until all is quiet.

I have replaced one lately and I removed it once before when puting on my supercharger. 4 Bolts is all and most people sell you one without the pulley. Get a good 4 hook pulley remover for this so as you dont bend the pulley out of shape. GL!

Look that over before you spend money on a puller- often there is a provision for removing the pully by threading a bolt into it or into the shaft, then using the force of the tightening bolt to push it off. If it's a special bolt, it will probably come with the pump. Check it out.
