Honda Civic Type-R Concept (UK) - first pics

Here it is, the eagerly awaited Honda Civic Type-R Concept that will be presented next week in Geneva. This Concept should be very similar to the production 3-door version. In the Type-R and in this yellow livery it resembles a bad-ass car out the Mugen shop more than a "factory" Honda.

I guess this version will put to rest once and for all Top Gear's saying that only old people buy Hondas in Europa, nowadays.

The concept has the 200 ps 2.0 liters i-VTEC engine of the previous Type-R. We still don't know it the production Type-R will have the same engine.

Too bad the Euro Civic has cave-man twist beam rear suspension. I just picked up What Car? in the newstand last night...they gave the Euro Civic only 3 out of 5 stars. The New Focus and Golf had 5 and 4 stars respectively.

^^^Was that forsafety or overall?

Actually a road test I drove said that they torsion beam is vey well tuned...

TB is the suspension of choice in Europe because it save huge amount of space over multilink or even double wishbone... and if done right it can be as comfortable as multilink...

I elieve Honda let itself be heard that they chose the TB over ML because of packaging, raher than money.

^^Yeah, if done right it can work well and seeing as this is almost a normal-sized family car over there, space is a serious consideration.

With some creativity and talented engineers, just about anything can be made to work. Look at what BMWs and Porsche have done with the McPherson strut design!
