volant intake

Question: does the volant CAI mate okay with the upper stress bar (strut bar)? It looks from the pictures I've seen that the new air box might not fit with the bar installed.

If I wanted to increase hp and torque without getting too loud, what are my intake options? It seems like the Iceman ($170) with a K&N replacement filter ($30) is a good choice, but I could be wrong about that.

I am purely worried about gas mileage...
what intake would best assist a commuter
I've got a system but sometimes I've gotta haul the kids so I'm only sorta worried
about noise.
If the value on gas is worth it I'd deal with loud though

oh and I'm kinda considering making my own SRI
I'm mainly considering the second one since I've got a zetec

check out the links below (thanks toolman)

any advice will be apreciated

Hey...new to this board so please forgive if I am a bit ignorant on the intakes in question here.
It seems like its a toss up between the "Iceman" and the "Volant" intakes for me.
Which intake is louder?
Does the iceman intakes have as an option the airbox like the Volant?
For the Volant do you have to use the optional Ram air?
If you dont use the optional Ram air....will you still feel he desired results?
Is it bad for my car to install the Volant without the Ram air option?
I really like the look of the Volant....but where can either be purchased reasonably?
As this is my first post,my car is a 2001 silver ZX3,Zetec,2 door,39,000 miles.
Just got it yesterday!
Also have a 76 2 door Ford Granada hardtop with a smallblock 302 with Edelbrock Intake,4 Barrel,Stage 2 radical cam,Headers and Glasspacks.(Emissions free but dont tell anyone.) Automatic.
Goes very fast in a straight line

Want my ZX3 to do the same!

Volant

I have a Volant intake and I must say that it is very nice. It is not loud at all except if you step on it all the way. Then it sounds a little loud. I have had my DB's measured from 75 feet at full throttle during autocrossing last weekend and it was only at 79Db with a volant intake and magnaflow exhaust. I am not using the ram air option and have plugged the hole in the location for the stock snorkel in the Volant so that it can only pull air from the re-routed underneath bumper location and I have noticed a difference in power plugging and re-routing the piping. My car is a lot of fun and I have only done intake, exhaust, coil, spark plugs and wires. I have a green 2003 ZTS that goes to 60 in around 6 seconds from dead stop.

How much did you pay for the intake?
Most reviews I have found online mention a noticeable "growl" under hard acceleration.Sounds good to me!
Thanks for responding-Dustin

There is a noticeable growl but it is not that loud per say. It hums quite nicely when you want it to. I am also able to drive my car without making any intake noise at all, so it's your choice. I paid $200 for it on ebay. I have a K&N air filter in the box.
