well ill give first hand knowledge on what i can. ive had a # of different intakes.... ill give u the top 5

# 5 AEM SHORT RAM : Looks good, sounds good, but thats about it. install is a breeze. cons are the metal tube gets hot and warms the air charge killing power, sometimes the oil from the filter will drip down on the maf and that can damage it to the point its needs to be replaces. it also removes the maf sensor to a different housing which in time has caused idle problems and others in certain cases.

#4 Home Made Short Ram : Get the sound, look, and a little performance boost. not bad for $40. Easy to do, keeps stock maf and stock tube which really isnt bad. Cheap and effective.

#3 Aem Long tube, install is a little more involved but still really easy. Good power, but once again, removes the maf from stock house AND location which both have caused probelms before, definately not in every case though. Filter placement gets to be a pain, filter gets dirty really easily and high risk of ingesting water.

#2 Mac Short Ram : Good build quality, good looks, quality tube, big filter, stock maf housing, and cheap. Very good non dressy effective intake.

#1 Volant : Great design, will never ingest water, very upgradable, functional w/ fc ram air hood, upgradable maf, can use SVT snorkel, also supposedly has the ram air top piece being released soon, very attractive under hood and very solid build quality.

another mentionable intake is but not on the list would be FS Short ram, i helped put one on my friends car. its a little pricey for a filter and a piece of bent aluminum. thats why its not on the top 5. real good sound, itg filters flow real well. and very straight forward install....

synth blend made my mpg go about about 4 mpg's

Thanks for the information. I think I will go for the Volant and switch over to synth blend next time I get an oil change.

Where have you guys been finding the Volant? I just bought a 2004 SE (still less than 1000 miles on the clock) and have the usual concerns over vapor-lock, warranty, etc. The Volant sounds like the best choice, what about the Steeda?

Lots of really good information. I was planning on going with the Iceman but now I'm leaning torward the Volant. That is a very interesting system. Thanks again for all the useful info.

I've been using the AEM CAI for 3 weeks now. Out of those 3 weeks, we have had only 4 days were it was not raining. No problems with water as of yet. I keep the filter clean by running through the car wash and using the undercarriage washing. It takes me about 2 minutes to idle after I'm done for the filter to dry out. I run the RPM's up to about 1100 or I just go to the vacuum cleaner and vacuum my interior while I wait on normal idle. Works great.

I also installed an SCT chip and CAT back exhaust from Focus Sport. The power gains are just awesome. It's not the best mind you, alot more can be done, but the pull was just astounding. Can't wait to get my Underdrive pulley on.

I have the Iceman and am satisfied with it. That said, I would probable go with the Volant if I were to do it again. Why? Can't argue with success. This board loves the Volant.

Focaltech -
G'day,
While all your info is awesome, I still have a few questions. As far as CAI goes, (I live in Australia) and it only rains every so often, is it easy for water to get in or does it have to really rain cats and dogs? I've always wanted to get CAI but now after considering your input I'm not so sure.
what gives you the most power gains concerning air inductions?

Cheers

with the k&n filter it takes a good bit of water to get through. but shit does happen. if u have an ebay cai i wouldnt drive that thing through a puddle.

go ahead and pick up the cai but also go to www.myfordperformance.com and get the weathershield to potect it. it will also keep the filter cleaner longer
