Newbie Focus Owner

Well...I gues you have to be new at something and being a Focus owner is worth being new at! I just bought a 2004 ZX3 Premium with everything but leather seats. I have been lurking these forums for a few days so I will try to not ask stupid questions that have already been asked. I'll just ask new ones. First and foremost, when considering headlights, is there any reson other than show to change out the stock lights? I mean I like the look of the HIDs on the SVT but $750 plus installation is a bit rich for me. Secondly, I suppose an after market exaust system kinds screws up the warrenty huh?

Welcome to Focus Fanatics

There's nothing wrong with the stock headlights. If you like the look of them, then don't change them. I like the HID's too, but I'm not paying that much for them.

As far as exhaust voiding the warranty, that depends on what all you replace. If you change out the stock cat, then that could definitely affect the warranty.
If you just get a cat-back, you should be fine though.
Do you have a 2.3, or a 2.0. I'm pretty sure you got a 2.3 since you're in NY.

Welcome aboard, the benefit of going HID is that your headlights will be much brighter than stock. If you get a dealer to install it for you, you might be able to retain the warranty.

I can't imagine any lights brighter than the stock ones. If they are, then WOW! The lights on the Focus are more than bright enough!

I got the 2.3 and my understanding is that you can get the Zetec 2.0 but since I lunched a Zetec in my Contour I figured the 2.3 was the better bet. Does the catback system really give you any HP gains? Also, how much does it increase interior noise?

You have the 2.3, congrats, congrats, congrats. Oh the possibilities with your new Focus, the HP and TQ gains with aftermarket mods. Again congrats on your new purchase.

HID lights are nice, and look good. I like the looks of the stock myself, but its up to you, and your personal choice. A cat-back exhaust system should not harm your warranty unless you have service done at a dealer that happens to shake their head at simple aftermarket mods such as that. Just my opinion here, but Borla would be my choice.

Again welcome and hope you enjoy the forum.

Yes, a cat-back does have some gains. It shouldn't make it too much louder inside the car, it depends on which one you get.

Prolly not a whole bunch... you'll get used to it soon enough anyways.
