I added the filter...no idea if it makes a difference in cabin air quality, but I'm not dead yet so it's not hurting. Think it was ~$30 at the dealer.

I just bought my car last wensday, 02 ZX3. I didnt think it had any mods other than the wheels/tires.

So on Saturday, i washed it, and then pulled it into my garage. About 5 hours later, when i was done doing the exterior, i hopped in, and backed into the street to do my tires. While backing down, i noticed something on the passenger floor. I put my hand down there, and it was like a swimming pool. The whole floor board was wet, with about a 5x5 square that had water actually puddled up. So i got alot of towls, and started to soak it up. When i was wringing out the towls i noticed that the water was brown It was raining pretty hard on the day i bought it, and there were no leaks.

Anybody have any idea, what this coulda been from, and how i can fix it? Please!
Check underneath & make sure that there aren't any drain plugs missing.

Ok, for some info. The OEM cost for the filters is less that $2. So you can now get a picture of the markup.

For the 2005 and up this may have the option but it would be in the main HVAC case and not under the cowl. If this was available then there will be a "door" in front of the evaporator core that is removable and filter behind it. Many new cars now have this option but don't always put in a filter. I don't recall if this is available as it's been a while since I looked at one of those.

Some cars have a "filter kit". This means the case came with plastic in the hole and then a place to mount a cover. You then have to cut out the plastic install the filter and the cover that would be part of the "kit". Again this varies with the OEM of the car.

The 2010 Fiesta and 2011 Focus will have filters in the above described locations.

if you have a screwdriver and can read you can change it yourself. 2000-2004 instructions can be found at http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/r...abinfilter.htm

make sure that you put the wipers in the UP position or you will break the cowl retainers when removing (lesson learned first hand).

if you are paying $30 for the service at the dealer that is actually not a bad deal. the filters cost the dealers about $12 each. you might get for about $25 if you negotiate a bit.

if you plan to install yourself you can buy them elsewhere for cheaper. the OE manufacturer of the filter for the 00-04 foci is MicronAir so if you can find one of them you are getting a top quality filter. i have seen them on eBay before for less than auto parts stores.

THERE IS A QUALITY DIFFERENCE. DON'T BUY THE NO-NAME BRANDS FOR $3.

I wonder if the mech pulled it out again, because there were a ton of tiny leaves one day after they all landed on my car, and they all blow through the vents into my nice clean interior :P
