Pretty sure you'll break something if you try to get in when you're not supposed to.

ok, i have a HUGE problem then.

I just bought my car last wensday, 02 ZX3. I didnt think it had any mods other than the wheels/tires.

So on Saturday, i washed it, and then pulled it into my garage. About 5 hours later, when i was done doing the exterior, i hopped in, and backed into the street to do my tires. While backing down, i noticed something on the passenger floor. I put my hand down there, and it was like a swimming pool. The whole floor board was wet, with about a 5x5 square that had water actually puddled up. So i got alot of towls, and started to soak it up. When i was wringing out the towls i noticed that the water was brown It was raining pretty hard on the day i bought it, and there were no leaks.

Anybody have any idea, what this coulda been from, and how i can fix it? Please!

I looked at AutoZone a while back...the Focus cabin filter was the most expensive one they had, no joke. $44.95 = no thanks, I'll pass.

Apparently '05s and later do not come with a filter, and have no way to fit one under the cowl (without mods). There's just a non-removable screen there.

It's extremely easy to break the cowl attachment clips if you take the thing off. If you do get it loose, the seal at the windshield edge will tear. I replaced mine with a rubber weatherstrip from a hardware store. The OEM seal is not caulk....just a piece of foam strip that breaks easily. This replacement is somewhat tricky. If not done correctly, the cowl won't lay flat against the window.....it sort of snaps in place, so you can't lift the upper edge after the install.

I was looking for ways to add a filter to my '06. The easiest way.....get a flat piece of foam filter material from a window air conditioner. Lay it over the screen and duct tape it into place. It will need to be replaced frequently, because it will clog more quickly than a stock ford filter, due to decreased surface area.

I bought a stock Ford filter to see if I could rig it up.....don't think so, without a bunch of mods, and making a new filter holder. Too bad.....for shame Mr. Ford.

FWIW.....The stock filter only prevents dirt from entering the cabin when you are in the "fresh air" position. When you are on re-circulation, no filtration is taking place at all. Poor setup. Other cars have cabin filters that filter all the air from the blower fan, no matter how the air is being blown around.
