Hi guys,

I used to have a 2001 Focus sedan. It did have a cabin air filter. It was changed twice until the dealership realized the problem with a "burning oil smell" was not a clogged cabin air filter, but a burning sealant used around some of the gaskets.

Once they replaced the gaskets and sealant, no more smell, no further filter changes necessary.

I've got a 2003 ZX5 and didnt have any problems installing the filter by only unclipping the 3 front clips (closest to the engine) and lifting the cover slightly. Didnt have to remove the entire thing to get the filter in.

Anyone know if there is any difference between the various brands of filters? Since I just put mine in, a Purolator, I'm not gonna change it anytime real soon but for future reference...

Question

There are supposed to be two versions of the cabin air filter - a straightforward paper element, and a carbon-loaded element. Are they both available aftermarket ? Is the carbon-loaded element worth the extra cost ?

I found this out last summer and picked up a filter immediately and filled in the gaping hole. Then my girlfriend bought a 2001 Saturn that also had a cabin filter, but hers was actually there and full of crap like pine needles, sticks, nuts, and very dirty. I guess thats what you get for buying a saturn from a ford dealership, then taking it to a Saturn dealership where they actually know something about cars.

OK I just installed this thing today. I have an 04 and there werent any windshield side clips. It just seals on its own I think, I drove it in the snow, where should I look if I have leaks?

Has anybody installed one in an 05? The maintenance manual says that it can't be equipped with a cabin air filter, which I find a little hard to believe.

Cabin filter , doesnt work on '05 models. I lifted the cowl cover on the passenger side and the air intake to the cabin is sealed with a metal mesh screen on the cover. There is no place to put a filter.
