Cam GEAR?

Queston, the SVT can only use ONE adjustable cam gear right? since the other has VCT correct? And even if u get VCT elim still can't use second gear.

I was looking at esslinger good brand? or no?

Tom's VCT eliminator kit includes an adjustable cam gear for the intake shaft as well. esslinger is a good brand. a number of "ford racing" products for the focus are rebadges esslingers...ie UDP, cam gear, etc.

I just put on an Esslinger gear with ARP bolt from McNews. Nice piece of work. And, the performance gain IS real.....at least on my car.

The exhaust cam was set about +2 and I set the Esslinger -4. Nice performance gain above 2500. The idle is still OK but it did lose a bit of sub 2000 grunt. But this is not a problem.

Engine revs much more freely and pulls stronger. Highly recommend the install.

No, the ARP bolt did not come with the gear. Cost a LOT ($20+ each) for the pair you must buy to get one. But, it is nice to relax and know that the gear isn't going to come off.

The stock bolt takes a #50 (IIRC) Torx socket and I got mine off just fine....but have heard of others who were not so lucky. The ARP takes a 22mm socket and is light years nicer than the stocker.

In the big picture arena, I figured that cheaping out on the bolt might cost me an engine if I boogered up the bolt so I invested in the good ones. Didn't bother the intake pulley so it still has the stock bolt holding it on.
