Serious Question

I started my car up at like 5PM when it was about 60 degrees outside today, because I had to go pick someone up, and white smoke came out of my exhaust for about 5-10 seconds then stopped, I immediatly shut it off and called my brother and he said thats normal at times because it could just be water in your exhaust, but it hasn't been rianing or anything here. He said to start it up again and see what happens, I did and no white smoke came out, is this a warning sign that my valve seat is about to drop or is it the bad catalytic converter that im getting fixed next week? FYI its a 2003 ford focus se with the shitty 2.0L SPI motor.

Edit: I also filled my gas tank up total to a full tank from 1/8 of a tank if that makes any difference.

Your brother is probably right, water in the exhaust is a normal product from the engine - once the tail pipe warms up, it comes out as vapor you can't see and residual water evaporates as well. More noticeable in cool weather then warm, it also dissipates faster if the air is dry.

You'll find some fans of the SPI on here btw, it's known for it's fuel economy and there WERE some performance parts made for it, likely avail. cheap in the BST section. I recently noted an aftermarket replacement head advertised in "Hot Rod" magazine, since it dates from the Escort there is still a lot of interest in it apparently. (And enough owners who are willing to pay for a new head over reconditioning an old one)

the condinsation your borther described is probably correct. But then again its hard to tell since we dont know if what you saw was actual white smoke or just water evaping. Any engine codes? Strange smell while this was happening? Poor gas mileage or lower oil levels lately?

Oh and im sorry did you say 60?? I from Manhattan kansas orignaly that pretty warm compared to lately for you guys! GO SHOCKERS!!
