1.
This mod has been done plenty over the years and I have yet to hear of any issues with shifting or anyone come forward that this mod caused issues.

2.
People who have had short shifters have complained about stiffness in the shifter and some have broken their shifter.

I personally haven't had any issues with shifting since I cut mine and welcome the not so TALL shifter that was eye level with my stereo.

Also, $100+ for a shifter that might get you an extra .002 quicker in the 1/4 mile isn't worth it to me.

Maybe if you go to the track or race your car a LOT, it might be worth getting a short shifter.

I don't know about mid-2002+, but the cable setup on 00-02 is sloppy an I have missed shifts just driving around town.

I'm picking up a Steeda shifter, I'll let you know if it's worth it.

The only way you can break the shifter is if you have cut the stock like you did. Simply because the stock shift rod is bended, but by cutting it you're putting the pressure incorrectly for the stock bended rod. Overtime you will break it especially if you're hard on shifter or if you always rest your hand on your shifter while driving.

I have Ford Racing sts (same as Steeda). The rod is straight - I had a few problem with being stiff but it great now. Just need some time for the lube to work its way.

Oh. Also EBAY STS breaks. You get what you pay for.

Well, when people say "broke", it could mean a lot of things.
I just wanted to be clear that cutting the shifter is no more of a risk than installing a STS.

Also, my shifter has never been stiff and I can shift in to all gears except 5th with 1 finger with ease.
Maybe I just got a good one, dunno..lol

This is to heavy. I just want want's best for me and my ride. I'd like to budget and cut my stock... however, if there is validity in what denzillion is saying, I'd like to know my chances.

Like I said. NO ONE has yet to have a shifter bust after cutting them.

Unless you're at the track a lot, IMO a short shifter is a waste because .0005 seconds saved between shifting doesn't mean much in a daily driver.
