Maybe a problem

I know this is a focus site but my brother bought a 93 RX-7 the other day and there is a prominant gas smell at idle. Could this be a problem like its running rich or lean?

We'll have it looked at, other than the fuel smell it runs sweet. Its in perfect condition.
