SVT Intake Manifold Whistle

I had a K&N replacement filter in stock air box. At about 24K mi, the engine began to make a whining/whistling noise - similar to turbo, but quite loud. Definitely linked to RPM, not road speed (eliminating transmission).

According to dealer, no leaks in intake manifold gasket or loss of vacuum, etc. Dealer says they called Ford, found out it is intake manifold noise due to increased air flow.

I just put a K&N Typhoon Short Ram intake on, whine has not gone away (didn't really expect it too).

Question: Is this normal for an SVT? Is there anything to do about it?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have an after market throttle body on it?

I know when I first put mine on it made a small whistling noise, I called Focus Central and asked about it. They said it was the way the idle holes were placed in the TB causing it to make the noise.

I have a short ram on mine and no whistling sound.

Does the car run okay, no hesitation or other issues?

i freakin love that noise, that's the reason i put an intake on my car in the first place was for the more agressive sound.

Here's what mommy should have told you to do when you downshift:
1. Step on the clutch
2. Simultaneously slide the shifter into a lower gear and give the throttle a quick, amazingly precise jab to rev the engine to exactly the rpm it needs to be at in the next gear
3. Quickly let out the clutch

Oh sure, It takes a few thousand tries before you get the timing and precision of your jab just right, but the reward is that you no longer suck.

I too have the whistle... FocusCentral TB and a FocusSport CoolFlo....so with the foam filter, you can definitely here the TB whistle. Perfectly normal and usually only happens at certain speeds and throttle position. My guess is that its whistling past the butterfly?

Either way, a bunch of people have heard it and no ill effects...just "cosmetic" I find it kinda funny actually.
