Fuel pump replacement

how hard would it be, scale of 1-10, to replace a fuel pump myself?
1 being replacing a fuse
10 being swapping an engine

i aint no mechanic, but if its do-able with basic tools, im up for the challenge

I would rate it as a 4 or 5 on your scale. It's simple, but a PITA.

You have to get the car up high enough to be able to get the gas tank out from under the car. Then you have to figure out how to get that damn locking ring off the top of it. I had a huge pair of channel lock pliers I was going to use.

When I was doing it, I had the straps removed, the heat shield pulled back, all the connections removed, the gas tank lowered and sitting on my chest with the car on jackstands and then figured out I didn't have enough room to drop the tank so I put it back together, did a little google action and figured out my fuel pump would be replaced for free under a TSB so I let Ford do it.

BTW, I still have the new fuel pump I was going to install if you're interested......

you should be able to take advantage of the recall... and if so... why do all that work when the dealer will? buy some performance parts and install those lol..

and everyone on here says its good for 10years
its an 01, so they should be able to do the math haha

If you do decide to do this yourself, make sure you are pretty low on fuel before you drop the tank.

The build date (or assembly location) was a factor on whether the dealer would fix it or not for the 2001 model year IIRC.

As for the pump, it's an Autozone off-brand, $50 shipped if you want it. Send me a PM.

this is funny because right now im going through the same thing. i have a 2001 sedan and i called the ford dealership yesterday with my vin # and they found 3 recalls with my car

1. fuel pump
2. rear door latches
3. front coil springs

i dont know man, you should look futher into these recalls. you should beable to get them fixed for free by the dealer. good luck
