you know what he could have done...swapped an evo engine into the car. I remember reading about someone doing this, swapping the whole drivetrain and powertrain, but keeping it all tucked in the non-widened fenders. Total sleeper. Just an idea what his EVO ENGINE TWEAK could be And if he told you and up-pipe and down-pipe, usually that means he has slapped a turbo on there, unless he just doesn't know what he is talking about. Sounds a lot like the kid is full of it.

The OZ editions aren't the fastest out of the box. It should be close. If it was a ralliart, then I think he'd win.

I know he hasn't turbo'd his car. It's a fact. He's been going on and on about how he's gonna get a $300 turbo over the summer. I knew the up pipe was for a turbo, but I didn't know if it could have been used on a N/A engine.

And on the issue of pride.. it's a big one. This is the kid I knew in High School that had to be better than everyone else. Pride is a major issue on this one. :) And I know he didn't swap an Evo engine into his car.. he's a moron.

I mean, aftermarket fuel pump? Come on..

And according to him, show before go.. so I think I have it in the bag.

My 96 Escort GT would kill him stock. I've beaten those several times. Just get a good launch and I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I plan to once he gets the guts to come down here. He said he will have this supposed turbo by the end of summer.. I doubt he will.. but by that time I will have exhaust, TB, maybe a set of cams if I can find some nice Duratec ones.. but I fear for my warranty :(

$300 turbo? Uh, ok.

Hypothetically here, let's say he found a USED/rebuilt turbo for $300. It'd be a 14b or something equally small. Evo 16g's (small) still go for quite a bit more. I suppose he could have found one used for $300. That wouldn't be an impossible feat.

However, what about the turbo manifold? Intercooler? If so, piping? Wastegate (external, internal?), BOV?, fuel pump factors in, the piping he mentioned would go with that, but what about the rest of the exhaust?, tuning?, if he's going low PSI (5-6) he wouldn't necessarily need any drivetrain upgrades, probably nothing fuel related (despite his claim of a fuel pump), no tune either...

The point is, even if he went with a LOW end system, the turbo itself wouldn't cost any less than $200, and that'd be some SERIOUS luck and shopping. The manifold and piping (even not I/Ced) would still cost another 200-300 or more. I've seen people do some really light and cheap setups for around $1,000 on various Probes...but it was all pick and pull parts, fortunate finds and a lot of personal labor.

Sounds like the dude is BSing you.
