New shifter: FRPP Mustang knob in my 06 Focus

My last car was a Mustang and I kept the FRPP 5 speed shift knob.
It matches the interior of my 06 Focus and I really like the knob it so here goes.
I already had a shift handle from my Mustang so I thought what the heck, I'll just hack off the threads from the Mustang handle and weld it to the Focus handle.
If you look at the pictures you'll see the threads are different between the Focus and the Mustang handle.
The Focus has few, fine threads and the Mustang has many coarse threads.
So why didn't I just hack off the threads for the Focus handle and rethread it?
Easy. I own a welder. I don't own anything to ream threads.

Tools:
-Angle grinder, cutting wheel and grinding wheel
-Lincoln pro mig 135 welder. Flux core wire, no gas.
-Phillips screwdriver
-Hammer
-Large zip tie
-Small zip tie

Steps:
-Remove shfit knob and boot
-Remove console
-Remove upper shifter assembly (no need to remove the mounting base)
This includes disconnecting the linkage and removing the 4 phillips screws.
-Remove plastic spacer stuff and reverse lockout if equipped (mine does not have this)
-Remove plastic linkage knob by removing the phillips screw and gently tapping off with a hammer. If you do not remove this it may melt when welding!
-Reinstall knobs on both the Focus and Mustang handles. Lay beside each other to properly gauge where you will need to cut.
-Remove knobs
-Cut handles. I highly recommend an abrasive cut off disk.
-Taper the ends of the shafts that will mate, like this: ==><== so there is plenty of area for the weld to penetrate, and when you grind down the excess weld there is still ample weld there for strength.
-Grind down welds so the plastic linkage piece will be able to slide back down the shaft.
-Reinstall shifter assembly.
-Reinstall console

The shift boot:

-None of the plastic spacers will be reused.
-Cut the zip tie at the top of the boot and remove from the plastic spacer.
-Install new zip tie and tighten until opening is about the size of a dime.
-Install boot assembly (upper zip tie still loose)
-Install shift knob
-Mark location of bottom of shift knob on shifter handle.
-Remove knob and boot assembly
-Install small zip tie on mark. This will keep the boot from slipping down the shaft.
-Tighten zip tie on boot. This will take some trial and error as to the ideal size for the shaft.
-Reinstall boot and knob. Bottom of knob should meet the top of the boot perfectly.

Shifter is maybe 1" sorter. I wasn't looking to make it too short because I have the arm rest and it would make it more difficult to shift.

Done. Side view:

You're right it is tilted slightly towards the driver.
It flows a lot better in person than in the photos.
Compared to my wife's 02 ZTS stock shifter it actually flows much better with the interior.
I suppose that's just my opinion though.

I finally took it for a spin last night and I'm very happy with the results.
Shifts are definitely shorter and it's great to be able to tap it into 2nd and 4th just by closing my fingers and not "row" it.
I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

A couple more notes.
The welder was set on speed 1.5 (very low) and heat/voltage level B (A-D are my settings).
The flash of the camera gives an unnatural brightness to the shifter color and it's blends far better in person and doesn't stand out like in the photo.
