Thanks for all the great replies guys. I put a lot of effort in this year, and I am pretty proud. It's great to have so much support from the Focus bretheren!

I think next year I am going to stick with the SVTF (was originally going to go Boxster or 968), and see just how far I can push in GS. Konis, R-comps, lightweight battery, lightweight rims... I think I could post some top-5 overall times, and kick some Z06 butt...

Yeah, but can you kick some Cooper S butt? Congratulations on your accomplishment. So are you planning from going from Regional to National champion and showing the S's the SVT's aren't so slow?

We do have an exceptionally fast MCS driver. As you can see from the results I posted, he is in the top 5 or 10 overall when he brings his R-comps and he's on his A game. With R-comps and Koni's, though, I think I could do quite well against him, and everybody, seeing as I have beat him before when he comes on street tires.

As for Nationals, it's gonna be pretty tough, but I think that I am going to go down there next year and see what I can do. We have a couple really good people who show up sometimes when they aren't out winning a Pro Solo. I think I am going to work with them, go to Evolution school again, and really use a Chase Cam and an outside camera to hone my runs and skills. (Evaluate my lines, how close I am to cones, etc.) I might even get the additions to the Chase Cam that will allow me to actually do data acquisition, which is what the real pros do.

I am F[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]ing serious about my racing, and where I want to go with it. There's a lot of the pro and semi-pro racers that come up through SOLO, and I want to be one of them. I have already worked out a road racer rental for 2006 to start branching into big-track racing. I also figure that when I get my business going consistent enough for me to go independant (business plan shows 2007, conservatively), I will not only have the freedom and flexibility to start going to regional/national races, but I will be able to run it as a tax writeoff through my company, making it more financially feasible.

I hope you guys know by now how little BS I spew too...

I would love to have the cameras that you mention. My first year I had an instructor ride along, and asked him to monitor how close the right side of my car was to cones. I thought I was right up on them, but he told me I was about 2' away! I think I've shaved it down, but I still don't know for sure.

It doesn't help that the annual Solo School has been held on weekends that my National Guard unit is on duty two year running.

Congrats and good luck on taking it to another level. I agree with you. Keep it GS until you've got everything your car can give you.

I wish I could stay in GS, but I don't want to sacrifice the short-throw for it. I think I could do a lot of proving for the SVT Focus in my region (maybe being too overly confident because I'm still new) with better tires and such against some of the good drivers out there. Right now, I can run with some of the guys on R-comps and Summer tires on my all-seasons, so that suggests I'm driving well and/or they're not pushing as hard. However, I cannot even begin to touch one member in his Cooper S in the region adjacent to mine - partially due to tires and I'm going to take the fall and say mostly due to lack of driving skill still. I would like to make this "hobby" into something more serious, but time and money do not permit my dedication to do so. The most important thing I get out of this is good clean ol' fun with great competition. I guess when I run STS, I'll have even better competition.

Tell us more about this road racer rental for 2006.

One of our most senior (35 year member) road racers acquired 2 VW Golf GTIs (Mk IIs, 16V 2.0L, full roll cage, full road race suspension, stripped) that needed a little TLC. He's finishing the reconditioning this winter so that come spring they will be available for rental use within the club. I am going to rent one of them out for about $300 a day for track days, then probably more for the eventual wheel-to-wheel racing when I get used to driving them on the big track. For that $300 a day, he will transport, teach me about roadcourse driving & racing, do all the upkeep, and take all the risk in case I do any damage. Since they will be just going back on track after a rebuild I will be participating in their development and learn about car set-up and race tuning as well.

It may sound like a lot to some, but compared to buying and owning a full race car, a trailer to tow it on, a tow vehicle, upkeep, veteran instruction from the start, and no crash liability, it's a screaming deal.

I definitely like the thought of starting out with a car with a lot more chassis/suspension/brakes than horsepower, and a FWD so that I am more comfortable with it's dynamics coming in. Just like in SoloII, it's best to start out with a "momentum" car that forces you to drive the right line to begin with, and not be able to cover your mistakes with a lot of horsepower. Once you can drive a "slow" car fast, you can drive anything fast...

At first, I was like $300 to drive someone's car, but once I read he is maintaining the car himself (so you don't make payments or pay for the cost of operation) and will change the setup for you, that's a sweet deal. Not to mention, you don't have to haul around that car, and you still get your own personal instructor. Open track days are usually around $150 just with your own car. Sounds like a bargain to me.
