Im 22 now and was 21 when I bought the car. I used to own 1998 v6 mustang. I can honestly say that I love the svt focus more than I loved my mustang. Then again, my mustang wasn't a v8 either. My ultimate goal is to keep the svt as my daily driver and get myself a nice gt mustang to mod the shit out of for my summer driving.

Besides how nice the focus runs, the power it has stock, and the nice looks, owning an SVT to me is like a privelege all in its own. Especially now that svt foci are no longer in production. So its kinda like a prestige thing to me at least. Ony thing better in my eyes would be to own a cobra or a lightning...or both

I'm 41. My SVTF gets 20-22 mpg around town, as high as 30 mpg pure highway (and I don't drive slowly... ever).

I'd say driving the only SVT Focus in the country is a big plus. I drove a (US Ford) Contour when I lived in Germany and I actually got looks from Mondeo drivers (and others).

But since I'm in the geezer crowd, I'd have to say don't spend 50% of you savings on ANY new car. Or 30% either. All it takes is one good f[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)] up and... poof it's gone. There's got to be a decent used turbo-diesel Golf you can move up to, no?

I was 38 when I bought my SVTF, two years ago, but now I'm 18. Having a fun responsive car can help to keep you young. Either buzz down the road in a crisp responsive fun car or (at least in 'merica) wallow along in a big damn SUV with one hand pimped over the steering wheel and the other on the thickly padded armrest, bored and annoyed.

There is a lot to be said about the SVTF, it is a unique car no matter where you go but not so unique that it gets undo attention. As for the mileage, I feel for everyone on the continent but the high compression of the SVTF makes the engine a bit more efficient.

18 going on 19, previously owned a 2003 focus ZX3 with no optional equip. my only option was A/C, upon purchasing this car it was quite a bit of an upgrade.
No more rolling up my windows on I-95
