id really like to figure this out but dont have the time to rip apart my steering column right now...

shouldnt it be possible to remove step of inserting the key and instead set something with the pats chip (the key) within a certain range of the pats receiver...i.e., the cupholder, ash tray, etc...

could one possibly put the key without the pats chip in the lock cylinder (to unlock the steering column), hide this cylinder+key combo behind the dash...then use the pats chip as stated in the previous paragraph??

any ideas on this, anyone?

i say you should be able to take your spare key, and leave it in the column, unlock the steering wheel and just use the push start button, and keep the other key with you to unlock the doors and such, like i said get the chip right on the pats system so its always on or open or whatever it is lol

The chip will come out through the little "door" on the thicker side of the back edge of the key. It wrapped in a white "damper" and is a glass vile filled with a type of dielectric oil.

Where can I get a start button? Should I have someone professionally install it?

The new Corvettes have that kind of feature. When you walk up to the car it unlocks if you have the keys in your pocket or where ever, also just have the keys in the car and you can start it with a press of a button...IMO jus buy a Corvette if you REALLY want something THAT high tech
