I'm totally in on this, my car is in winter mode for the time being but I got most of the parts I wanted for it already and let's just say I'll be a busy little bee in the spring. I did put some pics up on here of my car when I got my Euro SVT's on it but since then I've got a Roush bumper, WW sides, Acura RSX black leather seats, H&R springs (thanks hotrodwagon) Eibach sway bars, C/F hood and now I'm trying to peice together a mild turbo kit ala the $250 turbo kit (just to keep up with the Zetecs, and maybe a little more)
Cheers, Mike. |

Wagons
Hi, all,
I am just about to buy an 07 wagon, se trim with winter package. It is sort of silver grey. The good thing is that it only has less than 8000 kms on it so I am looking forward to a long and hopefully carefree life. One of my first challenges will be to find some roof bars that work so I can use our roof box for our trips up to the cottage. By the way, what is the ZETEC that I see referred to. (OK a real noobie question, go easy). What is involved in the transaxle service that I see is recommended for 30 months, or 50,000 km and should I have this done despite my low mileage? Thanks for your help. Norval |

Welcome to the wagon club
Zetec refers to an engine that was installed in wagons from 00-04. In the 05 model year, the new engine design is referred to as a Duratec. These are completely different designs. For example, Zetec engines had spark plug wires and coils that you're probably familiar with if you've ever owned a gasoline vehicle. Duratec engines use "coil on plug" ignition systems which don't have spark plug wires like a Zetec. There are other differences also. As far as transaxle service goes, that depends on what type of transaxle you have. If you have a manual trans, then there's no need to worry about it. If you have an automatic, as long as it's shifting correctly, the fluid level is good, and it doesn't smell like dead fish or burned- it's ok. If you really want to, you can have someone change the transmission filter. I'd personally have it done at the dealer because all those vehicles should have (check first) a 5yr/100k drivetrain warranty from Ford which should transfer to a new owner. Those roof bars are a pain in the butt- IMO. I ordered my wagon, but for some reason Ford decided that the cross bars would not be supplied with the side rails. I could order some for $150 each, but instead I decided to install a roof rack from a Ford Windstar that I purchased for $75 from a junkyard. If you're not handy with installing things, then I'm sure you can find cross bars on either a Windstar with the same style rack, or another Focus wagon. It might take some looking, but the parts are out there. I'm not sure if there is anywhere you can order these new- except a dealer or www.fordaccessories.com

Welcome Norval.. My wagon is an 03 with over 150k miles on the odometer, and she is still running good. So I feel you will be happy. We are with ours.
About the cross bar thing, try a good modern salvage yard that is computerized and they SHOULD be able to find the crossbars for you. They will be 50% of retail that way... We use a camping box on the roof of ours once or twice a year and it does nicely. |
