Custom SVT shift knob : )

Here's my latest little project. I had a $9.50 aluminum APC shift knob from Advance Auto Parts, a can of black enamel, and a can of clear enamel, so i decided to paint this thing so it might actually look good in my car. I masked off the top circle of the knob, and sanded/prepped/painted several coats, then the same with the clear enamel. Then I peeled away the mask leaving the bare aluminum on top. As some of you know, I work in a graphics/sign shop, so I have easy access to vinyl. I cut a small circle of vinyl with the SVT logo cut out of the middle (using our plotter) - placed it on top of the bare spot so the SVT cutout revealed the aluminum underneath. I then coated it with several more layers of clear. I'm pretty happy with the end result as it matches my red interior accents very well. And plus, no one else has one : ) Here it is. Thought I'd share since it was a super cheap and easy way to mod a shift knob.

That looks really sharp!

I'd scooch the boot up a bit too, if possible, so it doesn't expose the stick of the shifter so much. But the knob came out rather great.

thanks : ) yeah i ended up scooting the boot up about 1'' from the bottom of the knob. I might take it off and save it for when i have my STS installed...would probly look cooler.

FociFoSho ~ I don't get the hacksaw comment (?)
