SCCA HS auto-x class

Looks like the HS class may get a little tougher for those of us who run in it. Here are some of the cars dropping from GS to HS:

Acura -
RSX (non-s)
TSX

Honda -
Civic SI (99-00 & 02+)

Hyundai -
Tiburon V6 (02+)

Pontiac -
Vibe (all)

Saturn with DOCH (assuming not FI)

Toyota-
Matrix (all)

Mazda-
3 (all)

Nissan-
200sx SE-R (95+)

Some will pose a threat while others not so much. It will also have a lot to do with driver ability.

Yeah, the Coopers will continue to own... What class was the RSX before?

All of those are going from GS to HS as of 1/1/2006. Bust as fas as the regional level...it will add some comp....There was only like 3-5 cars, at most, in HS here before. National level = mini dominate.

I hope they don't allow the new SI to fall into HS. And I'm surprised to see the Mazda 3 fall down into HS.

Where does the Sentra SE-R/Spec V lie?

Sentra SE-R is going from DS to GS.

Yeah, never really had much problem with the Spec-Vs, I thought that they were mis-classed in DS.

Doubt it, it's pretty much a RSX Type-S (a better one at that).

I doubt it too, but it just is currently placed that way. Wouldn't make any sense to me... or all the autocrosser out there. That's good to see the Spec V's going to GS. That'll hopefully bring in a little more competition here locally.

The mazda3 5 door and sp comes with 160hp and 17"rims and better tires. Plus the suspension is a little better. But with the right driver we can take em.

So, you run lighter wheels for the benefit of just carrying less mass, and it reduces the amount of power lost in rotating that extra mass. But is the loss in wheel stiffness/response that negligible that the minor weight saving is more important?
