Hyundai vs SVT
I drive a 1999 Hyundai Elantra with 60k miles with no mods accept a set of NGK wires and Denso Irridium plugs and my friend drives a silver SVT Focus with 12k miles with nothing done but a K&N filter in the stock air box. We raced 3 times in a row and i beat him every time with an extra person in the car. We both went all out i dumped clutch at around 4500-5000 rpms, he dumped around the same i dont know for sure what numbers but thats what it sounded like. Can any one tell me what the hell is going on? My friend might just really suck at driving but he dumped high, shifted at redline, and we only raced to around 70mph. What do you guys think. How do you guys drag you focuses? P.S. this is a true story

I am going to compare the Elantra to a Corolla, their numbers look the same. I doubt your wires/plugs add 40-50 hp to be comparable to the SVT. So either he is a horrible driver, or he was playing with you.

Tell your friend to get on this forum so we can have a chat with him. Also post some pictures of your car and the SVT.

He cant be a good driver. A 15 year old girl could beat a car with 30 less horsepower. Werid?

There has to be some other factors involved. An SVT and an Elantra (website says 130ish HP, but doesn't matter) driven by the same person, the SVT will beat it every time. Accroding to a buys guide for compact cars on carsdirect (did a quick google search) the Elantra gets 8.4 seconds 0-60 with a manual tranny. According to multiple sites, the SVT gets 7.5 seconsd 0-60.
8.4 is not faster than 7.5. Numbers don't lie. So either- 1. He can't drive 2. He was playing with you 3. His car has serious problems 4. You have some other modifications to your car So which one is it?

Well i was running 91 octane, im sure the tests were running crap since the owners manual recomends crap and i through away the garbage auto light shit plugs that came with the car it was a stop watch so it prolly was more like 7.5 with possible speddo issues, and human error, but with the same human error my friend with to focus got the same times, also it was dahm cold when i race which can make a difference.
