349 miles on 11.5 gallons = 31.2 MPG. 98% highway, no A/C, but I travel up and down a mountain pass every day...it could be more if I were on flat land. I put it in neutral whenever I'm going downhill from the summit of the pass - I can coast for 7 out of 40 miles on my morning commute to work. No coasting on the way home. No real mods. Tire pressures are 35 PSI cold, and I've removed the spare, jack and the passenger seat. I had been down to 28.5 for the past couple tanks, but I've slowed down from 80 MPH to 75 MPH, took out the ballast and I take off from stop lights less quickly...but still among the fastest most times.

I'm going to do the hack-a-MAF air intake mod soon to see what, if anything, that gets me. And it's worth noting that I have a bad wheel bearing that's probably adding a bit of friction to the drivetrain.

I did the MAF tube SRI mod yesterday and mileage looks to be worse so far. I disconnected the battery and there are a few other variables that have changed from my normal routine that may have driven my mileage lower. It's too early to pass judgement. I need to wait until the next full tank of gas....it will be my normal routine.

And I didn't mention above that my Focus is an automatic.

EDIT: I took the car in for what I suspected to be a bad wheel bearing. Turns out it was a bad carrier bearing...and a bad transmission. Trans fluid was black and thick with pieces of metal in it. Upon teardown the dealer found a bearing in the tranny that was in pieces. Thank God for the Ford Certified warranty. The dealer is awaiting approval from Ford, but I might get away with paying only the $100 deductible for the whole trans rebuild. This will have significantly affected my mileage. They have me in a rental '08 Focus. According to the computer in it, I've gotten 36MPG over 3/4ths of a normal commute (didn't realize the MPG computer was in there until the 2nd day).

Averaging at least 35mpg now.. city/country driving.. no a/c.. tires @45 psi, top speed = 51mph.. slow starts/coasting to stoplights..

All time best = 39.5mpg.. I'm sure I could break 40 on highway @ a steady 55mph ;)

*edit* automatic trans

My best tank yet...

I managed 32.8mpg in town on the last tank. Seems to help a lot having the AC off now that the weather is cooling off...

The intake mod has hurt mileage. I can only barely manage 30 MPG. Thinking of taking it out...

My best ever is 37mpg all highway which was 416 miles / 11.2 GA = 37mpg. I usually get around 30-32mpg in the city. I do most of the hyper-miling techniques (except draft semi's and practice driving without brakes). Just be easy on the car and you'd be surprised what you can do. The only engine mods I have are a Steeda SRI and TruBendz 2.5" Catback. All of this data can be validated by my ScanGaugeII which is an awesome tool for practicing efficient driving!
