I Hate Tuner Cars!

Well tuner foci to be exact. I am going to state why here and hope folks will chime in with their opinions.

First off we have the Saleen N2o focus and the Roush focus.

To me when a tuner tunes a car, it should have more than just appearance parts. Lets begin there. The Saleen car is set up and ready for a nitrous system, its ok, but thats not something you really need from the factory unless your buying from the 2 fast 2 furious car lot. Hmmm maybe a factory supercharger or turbo would be better. Naw, they would have to charge way to much for that.

Here are the saleens mods:

Engine:
Direct Port Nitrous 75-hp Wet System with 10-lb nitrous bottle

Suspension:
Front: MacPherson and lower A-arm with Saleen Racecraft system, including N2 struts, coil springs, 1.25 inch stabilizer bar with urethane pivot bushings, specially calibrated suspension settings and strut brace
Rear: Control Blade multilink upper independent with Saleen Racecraft system, including N2 shocks and coil springs, .98 inch stabilizer bar with urethane pivot bushings

Interior/Exterior:
Ford Factory Black with Saleen N20 graphics
Saleen aluminum wheels
Saleen/Momo sport seating
Saleen speedomoter with white faced gauges
Saleen performance driving pedals
Saleen close ratio shifter
Saleen trim accents
Saleen shift knob
Saleen N20 Focus graphics and identification
Saleen windshield graphic
Saleen fender badge
Saleen serialized engine bay plaque
Saleen serialized bumper number
Saleen serialized console plaque
Saleen championship wreaths
Saleen custom carpet door panels
Saleen custom floor mats
Saleen key fob
Saleen "Eagle One" detail kit
Saleen owners document portfolio

Also not listed are the center exhaust and air filter, ooohh can't forget those.

Ok so for a mere $ 24,995.00 not including any dealer mark up, you get an air filter and a cat back exhaust. You get some springs, shocks, struts and sway bars and then a whole bunch of appearance items. To me not worth it at all.

Lets move onto the roush focus, this car makes me laugh, I am sorry, it does. It comes out after the saleen and look at the hood for example, wow, the same damn hood, brilliant!

Now the roush has these mods:

- Front Fascia Kit
- Fascia Grille Insert Kit
- Fog Lamps
- Rear Fascia Kit
- Side Skirt Kit
- Hood Scoop
- Rear Wing
- Rear Spoiler
- Suspension Kit
- Rear Sway Bars
- 17" Wheel Kit
- BFGoodrich G-Force KDW Tires
- Cat Back Exhaust
- Headers
- Instrument Cluster
- Shifter Arm and Knob
- Hardware and Badging
- Air Intake System
- Billet Pedal Kit
- Roush Embroidered Floor Mats
- Windshield Banner
- Leather Seat Cover
- Interior Trim Kit
- Brake Kit

Ok lets run down the list, you get the gay rear midwing, the same NON FUNCTIONING hood scoop as the saleen, a glue on interior package, headers, oh thats for the V8 focus etc.

Again to me this is not worth it at all. Same basic crap as the saleen, minus the nitrous.

My point in this is, these companies aren't a joke, if they want to come out with decent cars they very well could. They want to pass of half assed, sorry excuses of foci on us. We are talking about the company that builds the S7 and the company that races in NASCAR.

How about a bit more forethought than some bolt ons?

A shelby focus, that would be ridiculous.

That is an excellent post. But you should send that to Saleen and Roush and see what they say, you would be suprised how receptive they may be. Remove the gay wing comment and such, but you get the idea.

Because we can all speculate on why they don't build the cars like that but the truth is none of us know for certain. I understand your frustration, believe me I do. But if you could get a strong showing of support for more stuff and started writing some smart letters and stuff it could help. Sending them a letter your car sucks and I think it needs this wouldn't get through to them. But if you explained what you just did in your post they could possibly take it consideration. Or at least they might listen.

eh well all the other ford teams have lossed out on us, cept cosworth and you wont see them over here except in very few pieces, but a shelby tuned focus engine, i dont see being too badm does it really matter thogh, you and i and most of the ppl here will keep buying the stock version and turning out our own individual car, which i think is for the better anyway

The thing with the aftermarket is, the more big companies produce, the cheaper things are for us. For example, the FR cylinder head, for the price cannot be beat, who manufactures it for FR, Roush!

Your right. But think about it this way. Say Roush decided to put that head on the car. Great, but what good would the head be without a new set of cams to take advantage of the higher flow characteristics of the head. So add on a set of cams, then an intake manifold, or at least a port polish job on the stock one. With all this additional air flow a couple of other things would be added. After all is said and done you are looking at a 27K-29K (depending on how much all the parts actually cost) for a Focus. Not many people are willing to pay that much for a Focus. Not saying that there aren't people who would buy it but some would balk at that high of a price tag for a focus.

Your both missing the point.

The fact is by using a cylinder head and cam package thats not gonna make a 27k-29k dollar focus!

A stock PZEV ZX3 is how much, my dealer has an 04' PZEV loaded for $ 16,570. Now minus $ 3000 rebate thats $ 13, 570. Anyway, the reason your paying so much for a saleen for example is the name. Nothing more. Look at the mods list. Itemize everything there and account an appropriate retail value to it. The engine and suspension mods can be had for under $ 2000. The rest is wheels, body kit and BS!

So if they want $ 24,995 for that and stock its $ 16,570 then to saleenize a car is around $ 8500 dollars. Now considering the aftermarket stuff can be had for under $ 2000, your spending $ 6500 on rims, tires, body kit and emblems. I must be crazy cuz they can keep that shit.

Why can't they come out with a performance minded version for folks who could care less about wheels and such?
