I've had the same problem with my 07 ses it may just be a oil filter issue.. for the 07's now I use fram filters.. My local ford dealer said they did'nt have any more updates as of 08/26/08...for a cure.. it does it to me only once maybe twice a week...

I've actually been dealing with this problem on my 07. The local dealers have all told me to "deal with it". Apparently customer service isn't their strong suit. It happens at the strangest times, but I'm at the point where it bugs me - but I've given up on trying to get Ford to do something about it.

I've done what was suggested by one of our fellow fanatics I changed the plugs from factory to autolite 104 copper plugs...thus far 250 miles no hard start...

I just changed out my plugs to the E3's. It still lags slightly when cranking, but it is tons better. I'll have to check into that reprogram.

The only time I have the hard start issue is wehn i don't actually drive the car. if I move it to a different spot in the driveway, it won't start again when I go to move it a few hours later. A lot of people attribute this to the fact that the Focus runs really rich at startup? So maybe it's like flooding the cylinders when your using the choke on a carb'ed engine...takes a few cranks to burn off the excess gas and get a decent a/f mixture.

Happens with outboard boat motors- if you choke them too much, they turn and fire and shut off. Then crank and crank and crank and then finally start up and run.

But i do definitely notice the stuttering at about 70 mph...more so with the intake I put on. The stuttering when downshifting and engine braking used to happen a lot, but ever since I went down mount washington using engine braking the whole way it doesn't stutter in low gears anymore...weird lol.

My 07 is one of the last 1g focuses ever produced I think it was april '07(I custom ordered right before the 08's came out) and it still does it too. I'm convinced that there will never be a solution for the hard start.
