there's a reason foreign auto manufacturers are now the market share majority in canada, and have been dominating globally and steadily gaining ground in the US

i'll give you a hint, it's not because people here like foreigners. consumers will buy the best product.

i read that the 2008 redesign of the US Focus is still going to be on Mk1 archetecture due to the cost of making the MkII, which imo Ford accurately predicts would not sell well at the prices needed to make it profitable. The Focus name conjures up a nice inexpensive car, not a BMW / Volvo competitor and Ford knows it.

Besides, we get the EU Focus ST here already in a little different shape... the Volvo S40. Same 5cyl turbo motor, trans, and chassis.

What I want to see is mazda putting the 274hp DISI Turbo 2.3 in a "3" and sell it here as the new Mazdaspeed 3. Now THAT would be sweet and it would be well worth $25k.

Well, you can't even get a 2.3 in a new (05-06) focus 3dr, so what compels Ford to give us a new Focus hot rod? All indications lead to a new Mustang and f-150 for SVT and a possible Fusion, another car that will fall in the non V8 ford perfomance arena that no one here will understand like the;

SVO
XR4ti
SVT Focus
Escort GT and LX-E
SVT Contour
v6 SHO Taurus (hello v8, good by 5 speed)

Lets face it, the major demographic for perfomance cars is in th 40+ age bracket, and what did they know in their youth for perfomance cars? Not the Cosworth Vega! Lets bring back the GTO, Chager (don't even get me started on calling that "thing" a "Charger") and revamp the Mustang to look like the day's of the 60's and relive your youth. I doubt this car will happen here, I'd like to see it, but, as announced by SVT, the Focus doesn't have the prestige they'd like for the SVT namesake. So sad. Anyway if I could get this car, I'd like a 6 speed Maunel and optional Tiptronic Auto, AWD standard, Juice it up with a 300 hp Superchargerd all aluminum V6 (or the 2.3 turbo out of the MazdaSpeed 6), nice large 4 wheel disc brakes, a sweet drivers seat and I'm set. As per price, Free is nice......but $24K would be all right too, with a 5 year 50K and 100K drivetrain. Yes, you can buy a new Mustang GT for that, but I'm not reliving my youth, my youth is now.

I'd prefer a 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder versus a 5 cylinder...fuel economy should be a factor for all cars these days. Sure that sounds silly to some but it's becoming a reality.

With that said, I'd pay about $20G for this car. If Ford wants to compete, it needs to do so by lowering costs compared to its competition...not match it.

One thing with that statement that I would like to address: some of us who weren't alive when the original Mustang came out in the '60s still think the new Mustang looks awesome, so not everyone interested in the Mustang is "reliving their youth." The concept of relatively cheap speed and gobs of torque and horsepower from a V8 engine appeal to more than just "old guys" - and BTW, not to take a cheap shot but if you're really closing in on 30 I don't know if you can still get away with referring to yourself as "young."

Just to clarify that last comment, again, it wasn't meant to be mean-spirited. I'm almost the same age, on the younger side of thirty, and I would never call myself a "youth" or imply that I am currently living my youth. It just sounds a little silly to say, that's all.

Wow guys, no hating. The simple truth is that not enough people buy enough Foci to warrant any type of R&D into an improved product line. The ST is as good as we'll get for the mean time. People love the mustangs, and more and more people buy the SUV's. Maybe things will change in the future with the way gas prices are going. Unfortunately, the way I see it, Ford has had to react to consumer appeal, hence the SUV's, trucks, and mustangs. They've tried to make innovations in product lines such as the SVTC and SVTF, but have obviously met with trouble in each case. It's not like they don't try, we as consumers just haven't put enough interest. I bought my car pretty close to sticker price, so I don't think I can include myself there.
Just my 2 cents.
