In order for companies to give you what YOU want you have to let them know, you'll only buy what you want and nothing else.
I read some people saying too much $$$ for a "Focus", your the problem, you don't understand lifestyles, and that can only mean that you don't know what yours is.
Baaaaahhhaaaaaaa
It has very little to do with letting the companies know what you want. They already do. Sport compacts are a niche market in the U.S. and Mazda, a Ford company, already owns a hefty share of that market. There just isn't the demand for it that there is in Europe. Sure, a few thousand of us on here would love one and would probably buy one if it were in a reasonable price range in the U.S. Problem is, to make that vehicle here would put it closer to the RX8 price range, way out of the Focus demographic.

Visit www.ford.com ...what's the first thing you see? An F-150, followed by a Navigator, a Mariner and MX-8 followed by the C70 and XK-8. All trucks, SUVs, and full size coupes.

Now check www.ford.co.uk ...you see a Fiesta, an S-Max, a Galaxy and a Focus. Compact cars and minivans. Ford doesn't even offer its F-series truck or any full-size truck in the UK, just commercial vans(which are much smaller than U.S. vans). Without F-series sales in the U.S., Ford's US leg would be almost non-existent.

It's always been this way. When the Lancer finally made an appearance on this side of the pond, it was a dumbed down economy car. Nothing like the Evo form. When they finally did offer the Evo, it's sticker was/is more than double the average compact. The majority of America is too conservative for vehicles like this to be popular enough...so one of two things happens:
1) We don't get it.
2) We get it with a nice bloated sticker price.

Dodge is the exception to this rule as they sacrifice quality and design to keep a low sticker on a vehicle with big numbers. Proof positive: http://www.dodge.com/en/nitro/index....pe=vehicleLink :)

And the one I configured was something like 36,000 USD!!! I don't think I am willing to pay 36k for a Focus...

...My $.02... Ford missed the boat...that car is only luke warm. What Ford NEEDS to do is bring the Ka over here so that the Focus is NOT the cheapest entry level car offered and could be better presented as a mid range specialty car in the 18-28K price range depending on options, like turbo, and AWD.
Then they could compete with the imports like Evo,Wrx,Audi,VW,like we're expected to compete against on the track or street.
I for one put my money where my mouth was when I bought an SVT and upgraded it to compete and defeat those cars, and spent much more than I could have buying one of the competition outright. Would I do it again with the next generation of SportCompact the Ford is offering...No, shouldn't have to... Ford should have read the signs by now and offered a comparable product--Turbo/AWD of their own.
IF they want me to pretend, I'm going to buy a performance compact and pretend it's ONLY a FWD Focus .
If the other companies can do it so can Ford.

Finalley- Good post. I also don't understand why they don't bring some Festiva type car over here to compete with the Toyota Yaris and alike. And this FWD business with the Foci is total BS for the SVT. Imagine what a 250+HP AWD (or even RWD) Focus would be like? If they did a turbo D23 I'd imagine they could get 300 flywheel pretty easy...

...Hell, even the Solstice is slated in 2007 to have a turbo and produce 260hp from the factory. Rear wheel and turbo, and American....hhhmmmm
Even GM is gettin with it...the ColbaltSS {SC} and the Solstice and Skye {turbo'd}
What pisses me off the most is Ford giving MAZDa and Volvo the Flash and upgrades.

And given the history of the Focus in Rally Racing you would think they would release some sort of AWD turbo vehicle. Like the WRX, EVO, A4, etc.
