After reading all the responses, I have to say it's no wonder Ford isn't in a rush to bring this here... most of us are just too damn cheap to pay for something like this and we wonder why we get watered down versions, everything for nothing.

Has anyone priced out a 200hp VW GTI? Almost $30K!!!

If you don't think you can afford it then say so, don't knock it because it's too much $$$ for you.

providing they put the steering wheel on the correct side, maybe between 19 an 20. I am not changing gears with my left hand!

Why is it that everyone wants the MkII ST for less than the SVT was being sold for? This car beats the hell out of the SVT...I-5 turbocharged with an interior that rivals domestic luxury brands and better handling than any domestic performance compact (and at least on the same level as the imports.) This car is worth $30,000 easy given what a step up it is from the MkI Focus...its people like this that causes Ford to give us cast-offs while the rest of the world gets the good stuff.

You know, if people could just walk around the car, sit in one, and drive it side by side with their own car, I think the price would go up. But remember, the majority of people do not read up on this car with its reviews and the like. They see the pictures, look at the specs, and post a number.

People can see paying $25-27k for a new WRX when the performance of the ST is on par with that car. The ST will have the higher quality interior, and while it does not have AWD, it does have the better power to weight ratio. With current technology, FWDs are becoming surprisingly balanced and good performers against various proven drivetrains. In my eyes, the ST is above a Civic SI and a Golf GTI in terms of performance.

Think about it this way, you can pick up a base model focus for under 12 or 13000. A fully loaded ST costs 21000 sticker. I figured a logical price for the European focus over here would be 23 or 24000. Look at the competition. cobalt ss 22000 maybe, srt-4, roughly the same. You price it anything higher then 25000, you might as well buy a mustang GT for the price. It may be a very nice car but they probably wouldn't make much money off it here. That's why it isn't in America.

Might as well buy a Mustang GT...? Two totally different cars in two different classes, but there's part of the reason why. Americans care more about spec sheet numbers and horsepower bragging rights (those interested in performance models) than what a car can actually do and more specifically, how it drives.

The Mustang GT represents backwards technology to me whereas the Focus ST actually represents advancement in car design, quality, and performance.

The price argument is a little vague and poorly skewed. You should now be pricing the car in comparision to VW compacts, the Cooper S (which starts around 22,000 but I see very few people flame its price ), and the like. The car is not an I4 with a cheap plastic interior. It is an I5 turbocharged with an upscale interior. The price will increase, and you're not just buying the car for the engine, which I think a lot people cannot see pass. This car is considered faster than the Focus RS in terms of performance. How much would you expect the Focus RS to sell for if it were sold here?

^^^Agreed, I'm not into the whole technology/luxary scheme. If I'm gonna spend 26000 on a car, i'm buying a sports car that's loud and fast and I can brag about the engine.

Not to mention (about the other two domestic compacts) the ST would utterly destroy anything else that isn't made overseas. The SRT-4 (which is now out of production) is little more than a four-cylinder muscle car given its dismal performance in anything other than straight-line acceleration, and the Cobalt SS is anemic for a FI compact, given the other vehicles in its class. And both of them have terrible interiors...the only thing the SRT-4 had going for it in this department was the Viper seats (which were included at the expense of practically the rest of the interior) and if the Cobalt SS is even remotely similar to the LS/LTs I've rented, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. The ST has an interior that's on par with a Volvo or other mid-price luxury car while the SRT-4 and Cobalt SS have crappy cheap plastic interiors. I don't even see how the domestic performance compacts sell when the imported couterparts are so much better.

And its not like an I-5 2.5L turbocharged engine is anything to laugh at, especially paired with the MkII Focus' driving dynamics...it makes 225 out of the factory, which means you could probably see 250-260 easily with a few bolt-ons and a tune.

Oh, and just to throw it out there, www.european-parts.net is now selling MkII STs for 22,000 euros (plus shipping and taxes, etc.)...http://www.european-parts.net/catalo...roducts_id=419

"European-Parts will ship this car to any place in the world, since this car is not available anywhere! For more information on payment, ordering the car, shipping, colors, interior options and upgrades such as 5-door, Xenon lights, Recaro package 1 and 2, Sony Audio MP3 system, navigation system, automatic a/c, alarm system please send us an email!"
