Custom Hood Scoop Idea

Well I am working on a few projects right now to say the least. I am about to start on a custom hood scoop for my 05 Focus hood because I am geting a Steeda short ram intake. The idea is that it will be small and direct/allow air right into the airbox/filter. The red area in the picture shows where it will be.

It will not stick up a lot at all, just enough for air to flow in. I will be making a base out of MDF, just sanding it down, the fiberglassing over the MDF and using the fiberglass as a mold to put on the hood. Let me know what you guys think.

-Ryan

A ram air hood? Nothing new, but it is new for an 05.

Not ram air, just allows air into it really.

Another suggestion, as a ram air function is not your main idea, just put louvers in the hood over the air box. Could be effective and if done right, could look downright sexy!

You also might want to tape some strings in the area of the hood and drive down the road to see what kind of air flow you've got in that area before you go to all the trouble.

Alright, so after finally geting a picture of it with the help of Doug (ZX4STDoug) here is what I am going to try to do, only it would be on the drivers side.

It would be perfect, even when I upgrade to a turbo because the air goes right in. What do you think?

it does look very cool and will function very well but when it rains you are very very screwed, better have some sort of way to prevent water from getting into the intake directly like that, some kind of cover for it i think?? i dont know just an idea
