true its a good hobby and lots of fun. I used to love working on cars so much to the point I got sick of it. Now I just want the pleasure of driving them.

Worth it financially??? That's obvious

Worth it from a learning perspective? Maybe. I know I've learned quite alot about my cars from different mods.

Worth it as a hobby? Heck yeah!! Like somebody else said, what do you have to show for a round of golf, except for a lighter wallet???

It makes the car more fun and more you. In that sense "yes". But if it's about a monetary investment then definitely "no". I'd gladly spend tons of money to have the exact car I want though.

I think that if you are going to keep it then yes but if you do it just because you can then no because that would be a waste of money...

I was watching Redline last night, and they had this super awesome show that was supposed to be the best show ever... well anyway, this guy had an M3, he said "I try to keep is simple, to what BMW meant the car to be originally". He had a CF hood with fake ass hood vents, huge rims with an anodized blue lip, "full carbon fiber" interior, and most importantly, NOS.

First of all, that is a disgrace to the M3 if he calls it "original". If anything, it was riced out. Yes, a riced out M3.

Second of all, I was wondering to myself, why the hell would someone spend all that money modding out the car just to show off? I mean, it wasnt even that fast of an M3, all it had was a bottle... But basically, my main concern is why would you have SOMEONE ELSE do all those mods why would you pay someone to put stuff on your car just so you can show off??? I dont see a point there...

To me modding is an expression of yourself in your car, sort of like a piece of art. Do you see artist going out and paying other people to paint pictures or coreograph dances or whatever else for them?? NO they DO IT THEMSELVES. If you can make carbon fiber, then go for it, otherwise theres no point in getting all kinds of custom work done just for show...

I just noticed a major flaw in this thinking, so I guess I can break it down to custom work only. If you pay someone to have your custom work done, then it is not worth it, because then it is someone else's representation of you in your car, not yours. Custom work is what makes modding worth it, custom work you do yourself. I guess the same applies to putting parts on, its worth it if youre the one who beat your head against the wall to get it to work, and can then reap the reward.

I just bought a grip of stuff on the crack head prices thread, and my money was VERY well spent. I should be in the mid-to-low 13's within 2 weeks and I drag my car EVERY weekend for prize money. I've won more than I've spent so for me, yup up IT IS ALL GOOD
