launching the SVT for 1/4 mile runs?

well, I went to the track last night and completely shamed the SVT.... best I managed to get was a 16.699... I figure this car should run in the 15's... I think my main problem was by 0-60' times... my launches suck...

anyone have any pointers for how to launch? I either bogged bad or spun the tires...

it was my first time at the track and only 2nd week with a new clutch, so I'm sure that didnt help, but I want to practice for next time...

thanks

Rev it up to 3750 feather the clutch out and as soon as you feel it start to grab, drop the clutch and floor it.

Presuming you've got some space to slow down after your quarter, yank fuse 46 to disable your traction control. You'll also disable your anti-lock so be careful.

Hey Crispy ... there will be a few of us at bifflo next wednesday --- you should swing by ... I am probably just going to watch, or I say that now ... drag racing is really hard on the stock clutch but it sure is fun ...

as in the 31's or the 7th? I think I'm going to baby my car for a few days to give it a break from the beating it took last night... lol..

track seemed to be sticky for everyone else, but I was sliding everywhere...

still was a good time... but now I want to find things to make my car faster... that or buy a supercharged mini... that thing was nice... ran a 15.5 and it missed a shift..

just kidding about buying the mini though... too small for me... I'm not exactly small... maybe I'll just SC my car... was talking to mike about that... I dont know, so many choices and not enough money =)

Reading this makes me wonder if people are actually interested in Drag Racing or just getting the best time out of their cars? If you want to be consistant.....which is the ONLY way you have a prayer of winning a bracket race.....you need to develop a consistant launching technique. This does NOT include a lot of clutch slippage because you cannot do that exactly the same each and every time.

In the interest of consistancy AND clutch life, you would be better off dumping the clutch at a low RPM and slipping the tires a bit....even if the car bogs, it will be consistant and you can set your dial in to be competetive.

Another neat thing about bogging a little off the line is that your top end will be stronger than your time indicates that it should be. The other guy will probably be giving you a head start and will be trying to catch you by mid track. With the SVTF pulling hard on the top, he will have trouble catching you and just might break out. Also, those people that YOU give a head-start to will not be expecting the strong top end and may back off or brake thinking that you cannot catch them.

Your clutch will thank you for a 2000 rpm dump and your times will be easier for you to win with.
