Ford May Bring Fiesta Small Car From Mexico to US

Ford May Bring Fiesta Small Car From Mexico to US
Date Posted 08-10-2005

DEARBORN, Mich. Ford Motor Co. is considering a proposal to sell a Mexican-built small car in the U.S. in model year 2008.

The automaker's dealers are demanding a vehicle priced below the $14,000 Focus, according to Automotive News. Rival Chevrolet imports the Aveo subcompact from Korean affiliate Daewoo, with prices starting at around $10,000.

Ford currently builds a small four-door sedan based on the European Fiesta subcompact at its plant in Cuatitlan, but the vehicle is sold primarily in the Mexican market. It also builds the Fiesta hatchback and a Fiesta-based crossover, the Ecosport, in Camacari, Brazil, for the South American market.

The automaker may shift production of the next-generation Ecosport to Mexico in late 2007 or early 2008, sources tell Inside Line. But Ford has not decided which Fiesta derivative sedan, hatchback or crossover would be most appropriate for the United States. Nor has the company finalized pricing strategies.

What this means to you: Yet another Mexican-built vehicle could soon be headed north of the border this one to Ford dealerships. It seems all manufacturers are seeking an entry in the American small-priced-small-car category.

imo,the fiesta is straight out ugly, but i think ford should bring in the eco car, because of lagging sales, people are looking more and more for the eco cars to cut costs on gas.Maybe it could help them out of their slump

I think its kinda cute. I wouldn't want to own one however because sub compacts make me feel cramped, but if I was in the market to buy a new car and that was all I could afford I would certainly consider it.

It'd be great if Ford brought the Fiesta here, they're well built cars. Too bad we won't see the Fiesta ST.

I would concider driving a fiesta st, that would be worth it, but looking at the price for a new focus ford does need something in a lower price range, sure you can get the new focus s 4 door bare bones for around 11-12k some dealers advertise lower but it is usually a scam, but a decent one is about 15k, so something thats fully loaded for aroung 11-12k or cheaper should be a decent easy sale

I have to say IMO the "Focus look" does not translate well to a smaller car, the Fiesta hatch looks decent but the sedan is awkward-looking.

I think the most telling sentence in that article was this one:

"But Ford has not decided which Fiesta derivative sedan, hatchback or crossover would be most appropriate for the United States."

Hmm, gee whiz, I wonder which one Ford would end up choosing?? Do ya think just maybe they'd pick that SUV-ish one to capitalize on what's left of SUV popularity by offering it as a fuel-friendly alternative to a bigger SUV?

Steps in buying a Fiesta.
1. Go to dealer buy Fiesta.
2. With left over money that would have spent on focus buy supercharger/turbo.
3. Tell every one around you bye.
