Is this my DPFE sensor? Please Help!

Hi All: I've been researching about surging while under partial acceleration and that's what my car is doing also. It's a 2001 ZTS.

So I went and bought a DPFE sensor and it looks like the one in this HOW TO article:

DFPE REPLACEMENT ARTICLE

So I go to my car to replace it and this is what I see under the hood:

DPFE SENSOR???

EGR VALVE???

ANOTHER SHOT OF THE DPFE SENSOR???

There's nothing remotely close looking to the article's (and my recently purchased) DPFE sensor...

I'd like to replace it as soon as possible so any help would be appreciated!

Cheers!

Well it says 16v Zetec on my valve cover gasket...so I assume the latter. I ordered the part based on my year and model....

I know something is definitely up since at partial throttle I can feel the car losing power and misfiring - slight bucking back and forth on power and hestitation....

Hey there....

Man I looked everywhere...I could have sworn it's not in that area but I'll check again. So that round fly saucer shaped thing isn't the EGR valve? I can also see that one thing going in there.

Any chance you have pictures of this thing in the location you're specifying? By the way, mine is a 2001...any difference there?

Thanks!

Okay I believe I found it...look at the middle image....the white connector clip to the right of the EGR valve is what connects to the DPFE sensor.

The part number on the part is 4U7E-9J460 AA

According to this part number, the part is for a Ford Explorer Sport/Sport Trac 2002-2001 4.0L (E) Marked With OE # 4U7E-9J460AA

Note that the same document has the Focus 2001 part number marked as: F8RZ-9J460AA

To make things more confusing, the following website lists this part as superceded by 3S4Z9P449AA BUT THIS IS for a SOHC engine...which I believe mine IS NOT...can anyone tell for sure from my VIN number?

Very wierd...

There is also another set of numbers on my part:

5F24AE-0160 and under that there is M7997

The part looks like this:DPFE IMAGE FROM EBAY

Not the same part number but the same part look.

I'm pinpointing this stuff down but I'm ticked that Autozone would goof up so badly on such a different part.

Any thoughts?

_______________

just something for you to check... is your a/c on when it bucks and hesitates? If so turn it off for a bit and drive it. My 2003 was very noticably strained in power when the a/c was on. Just a thought....
