The difference between mazda 2.3L and focus 2.3L?

Ok is there a big difference between a 2.3L focus and a 2.3L mazda 3 besides the mazda having rear break pads lol. But performance waise the engines are exact right?

Oh and this makes no sense but there is a ram air intake going straight to the battery. I thought that was weird.

ok I was told that the Mazda 3 had timeable cam gears or something like that, so I guess Mazda is trying to claim 160 HP stock. I might not be right but thats what I was told by the owner of a Mazda 3

they have whats called vct.. variable cam timing. also there are other small differences that raise it to 160 hp.

its ecu controlled..to do it you'd have to basically swap everything out of the mazda and into the focus. no one has really been able to crack the ecu on them yet so i dont think its worth it. especially just for a few extra hp.

Ford/Mazda engines, specifically the 2.3 litre duratec, Is a joint venture between the two auto manufacters... It's not a japanese engine... The majority are assembled in mexico... I believe.

The only swap I would consider would be a Mazdaspeed 6.

But I haven't seen any on the road... I don't think they are produced in high numbers... But the 2.3l duratec turbo'd and intercooled is something I can only dream about.

The Mazdaspeed 6 is not technically out yet. It will have a 2.3L turbo, as will the Mazda 3. They will have the same engine. The 3 is lighter, but the 6 has a wider whellbaseand outhandles the 3.
VCT requires specific cams, and trust me, it would be worth the swap if you could get the parts. Good luck. I own both a Mazda 3, and a Focus. Mazda is heavier, lower, and faster than any stock focus. My Mazda 3 wagon outhandles any focus I have ever ridden in.

In short, they are the same engine. Most parts are interchangeable, except for ecu, and exhaust. Oh and the intake tube bends underneath the battery.

The Mazda3 extra ten HP is thanks to the intake manifold from what i heard but for some reason the torque was not improved, if that makes any sense....

any stock focus probably but with $700 -$1000 in suspension that can change with a quickness.
