Jerk - Heavy Acceleration

It usually happens while trying to pass someone or getting on the highway. As I mash the throttle it'll pause and then give me a sudden jerk before finally pushing forward and giving me the acceleration I want. Any ideas?

Need more info. Auto, manual? If it's a auto which I'm betting it is you might need to add more trans oil or change it and the filter.

Automatic, nearly 100k miles. How often should that be changed? It's hard to believe I just changed the filter and fluid nearly 25k miles ago already! I'll take a good look at it today when I drive up the coast.. Thanks.

Okay yea. then just check the oil level sometimes if there is not enough oil in there it will cause it to shift hard and hesitate.

On these new transmissions- especially those that use synthetic fluid- I don't change the fluid until it's dirty, or smells like fish. Then I do what you did, change the filter and part of the fluid. I do check the fluid frequently, although it's easy to forget since you have to check oil first with the engine off, then check the transmission fluid with the engine idling normal idle (not start-up, fast idle).

If you look in the owner's manual, the recommended change interval is 25k miles, but talk to any Ford mechanic and they will tell you it's really more like 60k, or they will tell you what I told you: monitor and change the filter when the fluid is dirty. Ford just hasn't rewritten the recommended service interval to account for new and better designs and fluids.

Now for the fuel filter- I'd stick with that 20k mile/1yr interval, and that's because whenever I swap out fuel filters- I always find the filter to be full of black crud. I think sometime around 2000 or so, fuel changed. It used to smell sweet, now it smells nasty. I used to love the smell of gasoline, now I hate it. Ever since then, it also seems like fuel economy in every vehicle has gone down. Back when it changed, I was driving an 87 Cutlass that was getting 20-22, after the change, I dropped to 15-18!! Other people I know who constantly monitor fuel economy saw the same thing.
