i just installed an Autometer DPSS (Digital Pro Shift System). it has a led tach and progressive shift lights. i used pin48 for the signal wire. but when it reads the rpms, it only reads thousands, hundredths, and tens. it only shows a zero in the 1-9 range. is this normal? or should i try using the FR tach driver? other than that, pin 48 works great for the tach signal wire.

I just want to add one thing to this...awesome write up.

This procedure is made easier by swinging the glovebox all the way open.

By that I mean, open the glovebox (empty it) all the way open and there are two
rubber bumpers on either side of the outer side of the glovebox behind the dash
holding the glovebox from opening further.

They are located in the middle outersides of the glovebox behind the dash.

Push in on both outer sides of the glovebox where I mentioned above,
the middle outer sides, and the rubber bumpers will slip from behind
the dashboard allowing you to swing the glovebox all the way open
and down to the floor.

This should make it easier to see/plug/unplug things.

I had a Autometer DPSS digital tach/shift light and my RPM window switch hooked up to pin 48 and it worked fine for a while. Now I disconnected the Tach and now pin 48 is not giving me any reading at all. Can you burn out a individual pin? The car is running fine I just am not getting anything.

Thumbs up tach driver install for 2005-2007 2.0 or2.3 duraqtecs with autometer 9117 adapter

you can,t splice into the power wires for the coils as they also power the injectors. however if you cut the power wires at the #2 pin on the coils you can then connect the wires from the coilsto each other and then connect them to the red with green tracer wire on the adapter, then take the ends of the wires from the wiring harness hook them together and attach them to the red wire of the adapter and hook the rest of the wires from the adapter up per autometers instructions, this is easy to do and can be done with minimal wiring experience

so on my 03 zetec, all i have to do is tap into the wire that goes to pin 48, that tap will connect to my green wire on my shift light and i will have the correct readable signal needed?

Pin 48 will not have a wire in it. Just a empty slot where a wire would go.
Do yourself a favor get a Ford Tach adapter and it will be a better install.
I found one on ebay for 30 bucks.
