No I would not have even known if it wasent for the clues I found.
The paint on the back bumper is a bit scratched and the dealer said it was because the owner before me had a hadicapped child and it wwas from the wheel chair going in and out of the trunk. Which I found out to be true, because along with the polaroids there were some printouts for different types of wheel chairs. I guess they were shopping for a new one.

That does look too gapped... I don't own one, but I see sedans pretty frequently, and I don't recall noticing the trunk that way. So unless it's popped or the picture is just at a funny angle, that bodes not so well...

As for the gap, I left my trunk lid open when I took that picture. I keep my digital camera in a bag in my trunk and I did not want to open it up again. Just me being lazy. Though there does seem to be some paint rubbed off from the trunk lid rubbing when it is closed.

So basically it looks like it was probably in an accident that was not reported for one reason or another. That's the problem with Carfax, it only tells you if there was an accident if it was reported and is on record.

OT: One time not too long ago while cleaning out under the carpet in the hatch area of my old Escort GT (now my mom's car) which I bought used from a charity organization, I found a little bit of broken glass and two hollow-point 9mm bullets... not sure I WANT to know the story behind that.

Wow! thanks for all of your help ztecpower. So if there are no reports of anything to CARFAX, could that mean the damage it sustained was so minor it was not worth reporting, you think?

yea, it could have been minor and not reported, or maybe the previous owner backed into something and fixed it himself (no report) but check for frame still, if it has it then you can make them buy it back, (and then you can get an 05 ST !)
but have areputable shop check it out....
If you were in my area I'd have my tech check it out for you.
call the DMV and ask them if the vehicle has been in any accidents.... they will have beter records and more current records than carfax........

Tell me about it. One of my other cars I found an unpaid parking ticket for running a stop sign, in the ashtray.
