That's sweet!
Nice job.
Of course the next one will be even better. It always takes a couple to get it just right.

Nah, not hard. I took a paper grocery bag outside, and simply cut a paper pattern of the top area I wanted it to cover. I then measured the thickness of the intake tube for the circle I'd have to cut. Next I measured how far down I wanted the metal to go - from above the intake tube about 10" downwards. I went inside and using my crude paper cutout, made a better paper pattern, with the circle cutout on the downward part, and cut a slot from the circle cutout down to the bottom of the downward part - I took away about a 1/4" strip of metal from the circle down. I took that outside one more time and put it in place, trying to be sure I liked the pattern. I then tin-snipped my metal (a little pita), took a grinder to all the edges, bent it over into it's 45 degree angle, took it out and painted it, then waited. When paint was dry, I applied the black door edging I got from Pep Boys to the top edges, and inside the circle, and forced the whole durn thing into position. I'm going to get more edging to do ALL the edges, so it doesn't cut me or anything else when working in there, and I'm going to do a bit more trimming on it, trying to get it down all the way where I want it; it didn't seat just where I wanted it.

Toolman, no offense, but to me it looks tacky as hell. :(

A+ for effort and ability, but the looks under the hood don't do it for me :(

Algorhythm, no problem, I agree to a large degree. I think if I got it to fit into the space better and made the black edging look more polished, it would look better than it does now. And maybe it should be a different color entirely - I'm probably overdoing the yellow under the hood? But I was trying to realize the physical benefits of having the heatshield, which I'm sure Steeda puts on there for good reason, and then I was just trying to make it blend in. I'll keep working on it! I was just sharing the idea, as I hadn't seen anyone else do it.

if i could find anyone that had a ztec snorkle or svt snorkle they would be willing to donate to me or sell toi me quite cheap, i could do my little experiment in trying to get a little more cool air into the area of the filter. so if anyone has or knows of someone that would like to get rid of one cheap, let me know.

well i just did the homemade intake and it made quite a difference, my only complaint is that when i first get on it or just tap the throttle, there is a sqeak sound made from like my throttle body or something, almost sounds like a bov, is it just me or is anybody else getting this too??

that's what happens. it's a pssssst right. like u said almost like a BOV? it's normal. i'm getting ready to do my home intake next week but i'm still trying to find a snorkle to route some cool air to the filter area. oh, and that sound is the air rushing in the open filter.
