He installed the maf tube with the angled end toward the throttle body and you installed it with the angled end toward the filter. So the whole maf tube is flipped on yours. Take a look at the pics. That is why his maf is pointed towards the battery and your is towards the grill.

Im not sure that it does, as long as it looks the same on the inside. Reason I brought it up was then he wouldnt have had to rig the maf to get it in backwards.

There is a subtle difference in the way air flows with the tube the correct way around. Air has a better chance to flow in a laminar manner when it is quickly restricted and then slowly opens opens up as opposed to being dumped into an abruptly larger diameter. That is why the tube is oriented the way it is in its stock position. That being said, the tube is too small for the flex elbow on the throttle body so the problem of a large increase in diameter happens there too.
Using the stock MAF air tube in this manner might be cheaper than getting a Steeda, but the replacement cost of that one piece of plastic in Canada is as much as the Steeda full kit!
