If you change your ECU to a Manual than you will have to get the PATS in the keys changes and reset for that ECU

Any time the ECU is changed if lets say from a JFA8 code to another JFA8 code the keys and PATS will have to be reset

Passive Anti Theft System

it basically keeps your fuel pump from running unless the PCM sees the proper radio signal from the key

WAY , WAY , WAY , more than that , it can cause ----- to come up on the dash and keep it from even trying to spin the engine ,It shuts down the ECU , fuel pump , starter , and on and on

true, true, but it also depends on what car it is. I haven't had an opportunity to reprogram any PATS keys on focuses yet, but I know on the expeditions and explorers, the starter will still crank, but the fuel pump won't turn on.

I was covering the Focus , But you are correct Diff cars respond to Diff things with the PATS

There is also a Diff if the PATS is set or we are talking a key that is not coded or has lost its coding
