ZX3 2000 vs. 2003

I am considering purchasing a ZX3 and I know of a 2000 and 2003 with 61K and 22K respectively. I am on a budget and the 2000 model is cheaper. What major maintenance issues/recalls should I consider when comparing these two models?

I don't know specifically the recall information but I do know that the 2000 model has had quite a number of recalls and I don't know of any recalls for the 2003 model yet.

If you can swing the 03 do it! First it has a 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty from ford added to all 03s. I had mine for 12K trouble free and fun car. I gave it to my Daughter and she absolutly loves it.

I agree get the 03 less problems and who knows if all those TSB were even completed, they might get you into the 2000 car with little to no warrenty.

I bought my 2000 in late 03 and ran it through ford service to complete all the TSB and warranty service for free. I've done 25k miles and the abnormal service total has been about $45 in parts - a new EGR hose and a thermostat housing.

With a newer car you are buying a warranty, with a more used car, you are gambling depreciation against repair cost. take the money you saved by buying a used car, that is the amount you can spend on repairs before it becomes a bad deal. In all likelihood you will never spend that sum on repairs. What you pay for with a new car convienience.

Also remember the 2000 is a first year run of the car. A friend has a 2000 and yes he hacked soem of the things on it but it have been giving him problems for the last 2 years with little things going here and there.

See if the 03 has the 2.3L in it. If it does than take it. you'll like it better than the standard 2.0L Zetec. Also the 100K powertrain warranty could pay for itself if somthing serious happens, expecially if its an auto.

if you plan on putting a lot of mile on the car i would go for the 00', it's going to have low resale no matter what so you might as well buy the cheaper car. also my 00' has 60K miles on it and the only problem was the fuel pump recall.
