You could drill a button, toggle switch, whatever into the center console, right by the boot?

OD Switch

Look around for an old SVT center console that has the plate with the seat heater switches and the traction control buttons. You can easily wire up the OD switch into either one of those. I have one and that's what I'm doing using a MOMO knob and I've found a matching brake handle that looks like it was made to go with the MOMO knob. Also, RadioShack has some awesome on/off buttons that would require drilling about a 1" hole. You could put it up under your center arm rest or right into your center console. It'd be really easy to do. If nothing else, find one of those RED start buttons and use it for that if you didn't want to wire up the start button like the Euro cars.

If you wire your OD to one of those buttons could you pretty please write a quick how-to? Pictures would be icing on the cake, but not required!

I have the SVT console, and want to use the seat heater buttons as such, but the Traction Control button will (someday?) become my OD on/off.

So do you just have to memorize your gear shifts? And NotaryDoug, what ebrake handle did you pick up that matches the Momo? I'd be curious to see that if you don't mind. Looks like a great write-up though, I'll probably end up doing that, but will have to remember to tell the guys at the shop that's it's an auto!

Yea ya just memorize the order the gears are in, I just think - click one down for reverse, 3 for drive! Every so often I move the shifter and I'm not positive how many gears I moved it, so I'll put it back to park and count down to Drive, but most of the time I just do it without thinking... haven't tried to drive away in Neutral or anything yet, almost a year!

You could also make some kind of decal/sticker/something and stick it on your console (P R N D 2 1), but it might look funny. All up to personal choice though. And I still haven't rerouted the OD/off button... some day, some day...

Sweet, thanks! I'm snowed in today, so this will be a good stay at home project. I may paint my center console at the same time and will post pics when finished.
Thanks for the great write up, color pictures are so much easier to view than my grease ridden Haynes manual!

haha no problem, and I totally agree. The Haynes is nice but sometimes those grainy B&W pics aren't terribly helpful!

Those bastards. If I would have seen it right away, I would have defended you. I think this was originally posted quite awhile ago.
