Question engine swap 2.5

I own an SVT Ford Focus. This is what I was curious about and to see if anyone that was mechanically inclinded could discuss with me.

The 2.5L V6 Duratech Motor is swappable into the Ford Focus engine bay, but what about a 2.5L svt contour motor with a 5 speed svt contour transmission? Is it do-able or just ridiculous. Why haven't more people swapped? Im a so-cal resident and I have ton's of shops Im accesible too, I just want to make sure I bring them a project that wouldn't be out of control and possibly not work. I'm not very satisfied with my 2.0 L 4cyl and 6 speed to be honest, so I'm looking at better all motor alternatives.

Because it costs a lot of money for not much of an upgrade - if you're going to swap a new engine into an SVT Focus it might as well be something a lot better than an SVT Contour 2.5L V6. You're talking about spending thousands of dollars to get about 25-35hp depending on the year of the motor.

If Focus engine swaps were as easy as old air-cooled VW engine swaps, maybe more people would be doing it. An engine swap on a modern, FWD car isn't exactly a cakewalk with all that electronics and wiring and crap, not to mention the tight spaces you're working with, especially when you're moving to a completely different kind of engine from the one the car came with. To do it yourself would take LOTS of time, to have someone do it for you would still take time, and cost you a lot of money.

AND... most importantly for you, since you're in California it's completely illegal to swap an older motor into a newer car. The engine must be the same model year as the car, or newer. The SVT Contour was only made in 98, 99, and 00, so you're SOL unless you want to register the car as "off road" which means you could never drive it on the street.

Oh, one more thing too... the 2.5 is notorious for oil-starvation issues that cause the engine to destroy the bearings in short order. That's why if you look at used SVT Contours for sale, you'll see quite a few that have new engines in them, sometimes even cars with just 40,000-50,000 miles on them already have a new engine. There's fixes for that, though, like a bigger oil pan, more baffled oil pan, oil accumulators that store an extra quart of oil, etc, but a surprising number of SVTC owners are just replacing the whole engine with a '99 and up model year 3.0L engine from the Taurus/Escape.

Two out of four SVT Contours for sale on eBay right now have had to replace the engine and did this 3.0L swap:

Another option you may look into is a turbo or a supercharger for your car.. They work quite well on the svt...

The v6 swap is all about what you want... A good part of the reason v6focus has his is because not too many people have one...I kinda like that myself..oh yeah, it works pretty well, too
Speed is only a matter of money; how fast do you want to go?
