Trunk Release Issues

I'm not really sure if it's a mod or a repair I need to do, but here's the issue. When you push the trunk release button on the dash in my car, the only way I can open my trunk before it relocks is to sprint to the back of the car with superhuman speed and hope I make it in time. It only gives you about two seconds before relocking. Is this normal on a Focus? I'm trying to figure out if there's something broken I need to replace, or whether I need to add some sort of spring set up so that the deck lid lifts clear of the latch when I push the button. I have keyless entry, but it would be really nice to actually have the button on the dash be useable so I don't need the keys every time I want to open the trunk.

Is the trunk supposed to lift up a little bit when you pop it so that it clears the latch? Or is it just not supposed to relock?

Pics would be a huge help, because I'm not quite sure what part you're talking about.

Anything would be better than the current situation. If I want to use the trunk release button on the dash, I have to be standing outside the car, push the button, and then try to get a hand on the spoiler in time to lift it. It's silly.

ok first i capped my flat head with some electrical tape so it wouldnt scratcht he paint job

on the top right part of the button put ur finger in there and pry it outwards a little enough to get the screwdriver in the right side of it to pry it out all the way.

take off the connector/button by pushing down on the tab in front of my finger

reconnect it and try it out, DONT put back in until it works so u dont ahve to keep taking out and putting back in. just try that out, hopefully that works it did for me a while back.

btw if this info was helpful dont forget to add some rep! thanks!

mine has always worked fine.. and my trunk doesn't popup i've driven about 2 full tanks of gas on the highway before i realized my trunk was open :(

But on the bright side it should still be covered under warranty... just recently when i had all my panels off the dash in my car i noticed that my remote started that was installed was pulling on my trunk release wire which was causing it to rub on a peice of metal and had stripped the wire enough so it was rubbing and unlocking at random intervals, which i had never noticed (music was to loud), so that may also be an issue with a relocking that the wiring has become stripped and its double pulsing because some of the remote starters use a double pulse to relock and arm with an OEM alarm if its not integrated. But i would get it warrantied first 3 years 60K warranty
